I know that in this period all the certificates did not make it to the state and the problem seems more likely to occur when the Catholic Church is involved. It could very well be there under a mis-spelled name. If you know the married names of any or all of the three daughters and their approximate year of death, I will try to look them up on my next visit to the Archives. NJ Death records usually have the names of both parents. I'm in the process of filling in details for the extended family of one of my branches so I expect to get there every few weeks for the next two months. Burlington is a current area of interest for me so I don't mine doing things that might give me some education. I did look at the will of John Boylen filed in 1907. It doesn't really say anything more then the absract in the newspaper except that he leaves the balance to "James Boylen and his heirs". I couldn't tell exactly when it was written, and I didn't see anything to clarify that this James was already dead -- so it's unclear if this is a connection or not. As for the Breen connection. I know almost all the descendants of my Great Grandfather Henry Breen, and I and my son are the only living Robert's. However, it is possible that Henry had other family in the New York area. Here's a short summary. Henry Breen was born about 1859, most likely in Cavan Ireland. His parents were John Breen and Elizabeth Kithcard. In 1870 he married Mary Jane Nixon in Manhattan. I think he arrived around 1866-67 but I don't have definite information and it could have been earlier. I have no information about other family being here aleady or whether he might have traveled with anyone. However the family story was also that Mary Jane Nixon was also here by herself and that has proven to be false -- she had two brothers. Date: April 3, 1907 Page: 3 Column: 4 Summary: ... Letters testamentary on the estate of John Boylen, deceased, of Mansfield township, have been granted to John P. Hutchinson. Under the will there are two special bequests of $500 each, one to Ellen Dunn, a sister, and the other to Thomas Boylen, a brother. James Boylen, another brother, is named as the residuary legatee. The estate is valued at about $5,000. ... Some things to be aware of. The NJ State Achives in Trenton has death records up to about 1940(?) available on mircrofilm for public access (as well as marriages to 1940(?) and births to 1921(?)). The archives also had copies of wills, so if above Newspaper article is your person it it likely a copy of the papers related to the will are in the Archives as well. The Burlington County library has a collection of local cemetery records - about 5 volumes I think -- forget the details but they cover a number of the smaller cemeteries and are usually indexed. A number of Burlington County cemetery records are also on line -- http://www.interment.net/us/nj/burlington.htm The library also has a number of newspapers on microfilm. Author: ginya1949 Surnames: Boylen, Boylan, Barry Classification: cemetery Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newjersey.counties.burlington/2925/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for any information that I can find for James Boylen (Boylan). His obituary in the Bordentown Register on Friday, April 22, 1904 reads as follows: "James Boylen died at his home, near Wrightstown, last Monday, from the effects of paralysis. He was a farmer, and lived in the locality in which he died for the past 35 years. He was the father of Miss Rosie Boylen, well known to the school children of this city, who were liberal patrons of her modest candy store on Crosswicks Street, near Bordentown. The funeral took place yesterday morning, the last services being held at St. Andrew's Catholic church, Jobstown. Deceased leaves three daughters." I believe James Boylen to be my g-g grandfather, but I can't be sure until I find more information on him. It would be helpful to know where he is buried. He had four daughters, one that pre-deceased him who I believe to be my great grandmother. She was Ellen Boylan (sp?) who died in 1892. She was married to Thomas Barry and had a son James Thomas Barry in December of 1890, and a daughter Mary S. Barry Hart in January 1892 in Jobstown. She died on February 17, 1892, in Jobstown, and she is buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery. James Boylen's other daughters were Mary A. Boylan, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Boylan McGonagle, Rose Boylen (Boylan). They all lived in Mansfield Township during the 1870 census. A mother for these children was not listed and that is one thing I definitely would like to know. Mary, Elizabeth, and Rose are all buried in St. Mary's in Bordentown. Please help me find any information, or steer me in the right direction to find the information that I need. I've been looking for a year now and no luck. I would appreciate any help or hints. Thank You, Ginny Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
