Dee, The Burlington County Surrogates Office is in Mt. Holly at the Burlington County Court House. They have records back to 1795. I have a form that I use for researching at the Surrogates, if you do not need actual documents. The last I knew, it was $3.00/page for copies. Hi, Bob- It is always best to put a meaningful subject in any message you send to the list. You can check on your list of subscribed lists here: http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ It is best just to try posting a relevant genealogical query on the list and then you will be able to see for sure that you are subscribed if/when your message is posted to the list. Hi Folks, I've updated the Stokes Web page for Descendants of Thomas Stokes of Burlington County, N.J., its at http://home.comcast.net/~jameslstokes/ The page includes new information on Thomas' ancestry going back to his great grand father, George Stokes of Wycomb, Leicestershire, who married Margaret Langley in 1561. It also includes Thomas' arrest record from British History On-line, when he was arrested in 1664 for violating the Conventicle Act of 1664. Also included is the complete "Genealogy of the Stokes Family", published in 1906 by Richard Haines that includes many American descendents. The family began in Burlington County but spread into other South Jersey families and into Philadelphia and Pennsylvaina. Jim
Dee, You can contact the Burlington County Surrogates Office by the following. If you need actual documents contact the Burlington County Surrogates Office Records Room at (609)265-5238. I am sorry I can not help further at the Surrogates Office, since I moved to Florida in Dec. 2008 from Burlington County, NJ. If you have the following surnames I might be able to help further from my research at the Surrogates Office: Prickett, Barber, Ewan, Robbins, Atkinson, and Giberson to name a few. If you have trouble with this phone number reply me back! Chris P. NJ to FL

I don't know if this will help you but try this link, http://books.google.com/books?id=Ii0BAAAAQAAJ&printsec=frontcover&dq=burlington+smiths. If you haven't already seen this book on the Smiths of Burlington, NJ then it might be of some help. I have Smith's through my Rodman line but don't see your Wm Smith in what I have in my tree. I did go through some CD's I have but found nothing on a Wm Smith born in 1804. I did however find his marriage to Sarah Lenning married Sept 30, 1827. This was in NJ Marriage records for Burlington Co by H Stanley Craig, listed as being from the County Records. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. If I come across anything I'll pass it on. Dawn (researching Rodman, Clime, Adams Fenimore's of Burlington Co, NJ) all emails incoming and out going scanned by Norton Internet Security 2009
Hi Listmembers, I'm looking for some advice on how to proceed with my search for my GGGrandfather William C Smith's parents. He was born in Burlington Co, NJ, 24 Sep 1804. He married Sarah Jane Liming, 30 Sep 1826. I have information on children, John, Louisa, Charles, William, Emily and Laura Josephine. I have all available census records on them as well back to 1850. They moved to Ohio and then to Illinois. I'm considering looking at wills for Burlington Co and have copied the Will Index pages for Smiths. Can some one recommend a logical way to search this data or is there some other search I should try first. The Family History Library has these on film but this will be a very long and difficult search. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Steve
