    1. [NJBurlin] Re: 1860 Census/Elizabeth LAMB
    2. Malcolm Sharp
    3. Donna, The dwelling next to this "MURRET" was Restore Biddle Lamb (dwelling #1468) and his wife Adelaide (Lamb) - they were also 1st cousins once removed and my gg-grandparents. Merritt was used as a given and middle name in my family. I believe the census record has the surname incorrect (isn't that a surprise!) and it should be MERRITT. A Jacob Merritt (no dates) I have is the son of Abraham Merritt and Rebecca (Lamb), m: January 1802. Rebecca was Restore Biddle Lamb's aunt so Jacob and Restore were 1st cousins. I show that Jacob was married to Rachel Woolston (no dates). Another of Jacob's cousins was Elizabeth Lamb (no dates), daughter of Clayton Lamb and Elizabeth (Ridgway), m: March 27, 1810. I show Elizabeth's husband as Daniel Budd Bodine (no dates). Clayton was the brother of Restore and Rebecca. (For those who need to work in the right hemisphere I'm enclosing a family tree.) So perhaps Rachel (Woolston) Merritt died before 1860 and left Jacob with two children and he had his cousin Elizabeth Lamb - who was not yet married - live there to take care of the children. ?? Of course having a few dates would help! -- Malcolm Schalick Sharp http://sharp.rootsweb.com/ -- encl: 1 Jacob Lamb b: September 7, 1756 d: October 11, 1826 in Springfield Twp., Burlington Co., NJ +Elizabeth Shinn b: October 6, 1758 in Mt. 2. Donna E. Ristenbatt
    3. Hi Malcolm, Somehow I missed your post on NJBURLIN-L, but fortunately a friend sent this to me. I'm not sure why it didn't come to my mailbox, but oh well. I was wondering about this Elizabeth LAMB myself. I feel she could be a daughter of Samuel LAMB and Nancy/Ann STARKEY. My late aunt had 3 children for Samuel and Nancy. (My aunt was born 1899 and spoke to many then living relatives of these families back in the early 1900s.) She had listed 3 children for Samuel LAMB and Nancy/Ann STARKEY - Nehemiah, born 1805 (my great great grandfather), Ann LAMB, born ca 1814 (married William MURDOCK - I don't think they had any children - I found none listed on the 1850 census when they were living in Pemberton Twp.) and Elizabeth or Libbie. I feel this Elizabeth could possibly be Samuel and Nancy/Ann's daughter. Given the spellings on US Censuses, it would not surprise me if this were MERRITT. Would you then know how Elizabeth connects to Jacob? Springfield Twp. was where my Nehemiah LAMB(born 1805) originally lived as that is where his first wife, Ann PATTERSON, was buried. (They married 1829 and Nehemiah remarried 1855 to Mary Ann WORTH.) The clincher *Might* be if she were listed as deaf. I have not looked at my late aunt's notes in awhile, but I think she had a notation about Libbie being deaf, but with a question mark. This Elizabeth fits the age bracket of when Samuel and Ann were having children. 2. have the CD The Ency. of Quaker Genealogy 1750-1930. I would be happy to do look ups for people. Michelle Cox (researching: Potts, Edwards, Peaslee, Cox, Lippincott, Curlis, Burdsall, Macler, Humbert, Greene, Prabukey, Martino, and Piper) PS I am stuck on Ellvy Edwards who lived in Port Elizabeth, Maurice River Twp, Cumberland as a Farmer in the early 1800's married to a Sarah. Supposedly descended from Johnathon Edwards. I am also stuck on John B. Cox, possibly from Upper Freehold, Monmouth in the early 1800's, a farmer, married to Elizabeth Curlis. They lived in Southhampton when their dau. Achsah was born in 1856. Any help is appreciated!

What is the ledger? When was it made and what does it have in it? Is it hand written? How many pages does it have? What size is it and what size are the pages? Would it be more practical to scan the pages and save them as graphics? Or at least create the graphics and then share the graphics to those who can do the transcription so that the book doesn't have to get shared among a group of people. Rick

    1. [NJBurlin] A Ledger Transcription Project
    2. Folks, I do not know much about the Ledger. I do know that it is either to be on display or is on display, and that it was lost at one time but is found, thanks to an observant individual on an eBay auction. I know that it is considered to contain very valuable information, and is a rich source for black historians and possibly genealogists. Paula if much better aware of what it is than I can begin to be. All I am aware of is the human tendency to view certain items as of special value, as an object, rather than for what material it contains. An example of what I am talking about? Many have a big, fat, family Bible in their homes, but only look at the cover and dust it. It is almost never, or even never, used. I am using this as an example only of what can happen to a document. The very same. It can merely sit "under glass." Now for a copy of the Declaration of Independence, this is OK, since it is one of several "identical" copies, and its contents is known. But in this case, it is unique, and should be transcribed, or photographed, and the contents should be made known, or at least accessible. Paula suggested that, since the Library could not dedicate the time for such a project, there might be someone out there who would responsibly offer to chair such a work, so that it might be accomplished.
