My 2-great grandparents were William B. and Matilda (Smith) Yard. The death certificate for Matilda shows she died in Trenton NJ at the age of 79 on December 27, 1897 and that her parents were Amos and Frances Smith. The August 4, 1837 edition of the (Trenton) State Gazette has a notice about the marriage of William B. Yard to Matilda Smith, both of Trenton; the marriage having occurred on July 19, 1837. The officiant was Rev. A. Atwood. The Amos Smith referred to on Matilda's death certificate may be the same one you mention. I am unable to locate any other information about Matilda's parents. -----Original Message----- From: MaisieAnn@aol.com [mailto:MaisieAnn@aol.com] Sent: Thursday, July 05, 2001 11:56 AM To: NJBURLIN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NJBurlin] AMOS SMITH, news from 1820 Anyone recognize this AMOS SMITH referred to in this news article? Hi, New subscriber here. My Burlington interests at the moment (all Quakers) are: 1. James Verree b. early 1700s married Rachel [?] - they were "of Burlington" and may or may not have moved to Philadelphia area (their son Robert did). There is also an IGI record for a James Verree or Verrier who married a "Valbert Williams" September 09, 1701 in Burlington. This family (from family bio) "emigrated from France in 1690 and were French Huguenots." 2. Uriah Pitman b. July 30, 1735 married Ann Matson March on 05, 1762 in Burlington. This PITMAN and MATSON pair have been a dead end for our family researchers for years. Their lives are pretty well documented in Bucks County, PA, which is where they went after leaving Burlington. Thanks for any pointers! Jane in North Carolina

Hi all, I have a question regarding military records obtainable at the National Archives in Washington, DC. Did they change their forms from NATF80 to NATF85(for military service) and NATF86 (for pension records)?? Also, is it true that the price went from $10 to $37? That $37 seems like an "odd" amount. (as opposed to even) Thanks for any responses. Regards, Donna Ristenbatt ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ DRistenbatt@dejazzd.com

Hello, I am looking for info on any of the following: Mary E. LONGSTREET born circa 1834 daughter of Derrick or Richard LONGSTREET (died by 1843) and Lydia APPLEGATE(1804-1881?), stepdaughter of John P. ATKINSON (died between 1846-50) of Burlington married Evan or Ivins SEEDS (he died by 1880) of Bridegeboro. Mary ran a House of Prostitution by 1880 at 522 High Street, Burlington. She died there in 1894. Listed in the 1880 census are her children: Elvira SEEDS age 24 prostitute George B. SEEDS age 17 he died in Burlington in 1892 Kate SEEDS age 13--accord. to a newspaper article in 1894, she was Kate WILSON--I don't know her husband's first name yet Lillie SEEDS age 4 I believe she married George SILPATH--a Mrs. George SILPATH inherited the house next door to 522 High St--in 1915 Lillie and George SILPATH are still living there with MY relatives Hannah A. VANDEGRIFT and husband Theodore BISHOP. I don't have Mary SEEDS will yet--it was not filmed so will check at the county. From the newspaper article, the following are mentioned: Mrs. Kate WILSON--daughter, little Beatrice WILSON, Mrs. John MCCLINTOCK, another daughter, Mrs. George SILPATH not listed as a daughter but I think she must be, and a Mrs. GASKILL listed as a daughter. Thanks. Kathy Karn
Thanks all for the great responses! Paula
Hi, Paula, Yes, the general returns for 1890 were burned, except for a very small set of data, which does not include Burlington (or Camden) counties. *However*, the veterans' schedules still exist, so this index entry probably means that your Jesse WEEKS was a Civil War veteran and appears in that section. You should be able to get films of this entry via a library or the LDS FHC. Also, you can get a lot of terrific information through pension applications from NARA if he does turn out to be a (Union) Civil War vet. Mike <NJBURLIN-ADMIN@RootsWeb.com>
