Hi, I want to visit Burlington Co. around Camden and then Lower Bank to search more on my family. I live in florida. Would anyone know where the Burlington Historical society or (Genealogical) would be? Is it worth the trip to visit? Do they have census there? Any advise? I hope to find the cemetery where my family members are buried. They lived in Washington Township and I believe that's close to Camden. Right? I'm looking for the family of Jesse Adam Weeks 1844-1895 who was married to Anna Allen. and their children. I only know of 3 Jesse Allen, Minnie and Lawrence. I don't know the names of Anna's family. No one has the 1900 census close to me. (that I know of) Thanks Paula

Hello, the following two women were listed in the will of Gertrude Bertha (Vandegrift) LAWRENCE who died in 1944 in Burlington City. She was the widow of Alfred LAWRENCE and the mother of two sons, Howard P. LAWRENCE and John L. LAWRENCE, plus several grandchildren. I would love to know more about the following women: To my NIECE Gertrude L. RIGG Walnut Bedroom suits of furniture, mattress, bed springs, vanity dresser, wardrobe, chair bench, and $2000.00 and any other furniture she wants. For my COUSIN Bessie SOOY all my silver and silver plated utensils and other items These two inherited more than the grandchildren. I can't place them among the people I know are related to Gertrude. Any information is appreciated. Thank you. Kathy Karn
Hello, for those interested in Gertrude Bodine (Applegate) HAINES and family: Will was written in 1904, Gertrude died in 1912. I have kept Gertrude's spelling etc. in parts. Son Henry A. HAINES has his share when his father built the house for him on Penn Street, this is more than their will be for the rest. My Elizabeth SMITH to have her share when the property is equally divided (is this a daughter?). Son Dilwin HAINES to have $16 taken out of his share--"money due us when we settled our account with them houses we built together on Penn Street." Son William HAINES to have his share when the estate is equally divided. Son Robert HAINES' children to have their father's share equally divided. Son Edward HAINES--2 shares instead of 1. Daughter Minnie TORRENS to have 2 shares instead of 1. Personal estate items to son Edward HAINES (included Goose Feather Bed, bolster and pillows, bedclothes, big sofa in parlor, parlor stove) He can sell items he does not want. Daughter Minnie G. TORRENS--if there is anything in the house she wants, bed clothes or any articles of furniture for her to take them Son-in-Law Edward M. TORRENS to get the big Porch Rocker. Grandson Raymond HAINES to get book History of the US. Granddaughter Gertrude Frances TORRENS seven silver tea spoons. I am quoting the end of Gertrude's will in full--it is touching: "The ones I want to settle up my business when I am gone are my son William HAINES, Edward HAINES, and Minnie G. TORRENS." "If there should be any change and I not be living as I am now I want you all to try and agree and not have any troble." And should I be sick or a troble to anyone who has to take care of me, I want them to be paid a reasonable price if there is anything to pay with." Hope this helps. Kathy Karn
Diane: Thanks so much for adding to my Gggrandmom's family info. I had the names of all her siblings but only approximate years of birth and I was in error about the father of the baby Theodore, born in 1867. The picture I have of him [few moths old] is from a studio in Philadelphia and the note on the back says son of GEORGE WILLS ,brother to Martha Jane. So he was NOT James' son. I am glad to know that James, his two sons and Mary Ann Wills all apparently were in Burlington county in the 1900 census. [At least they were not spirited away by Martians!!!!] Do you know what town or township they lived in? That Mary Ann and her two nephews were all still single follows a family trend of not leaving any [ or not Many] descendants. I wonder if the naming of the first son WILLIAM HY might mean it was Mary Dillett's Father's name and second son AARON might have been named for George's father. That was and still is a common naming pattern for sons. I know that There are lots of Aaron Wills' in Burlington in the 1700s but have been so far unable to attach my George to any one of them.--- or any other of Dr. Daniel Wills' many descendants. Again Thanks ! Any further help will be welcome. Steph Powell Cecil stephaxi@mindspring.com
