    2. If anyone is planning a trip to Trenton (Archives) soooooon...I would beg a favor. I would like a copy of the intestate file for Nathaniel Scudder...My copy of the index is very faint...it looks as though the file # is 4821 - 4826M b. 24, p. 135. Int and Inv. 1781. I will gladly pay for the copy. I wrote to the archives requesting another will about six weeks ago and haven't gotten it yet. I'm afraid to send for it. I'll get up there myself, but not until Thanksgiving week and I would love to have it before then. Thanks for any help anyone can offer. Georgia Whitson

    1. [NJBurlin] POORHOUSE INFORMATION
    2. Poor House Lady
    3. We would like to invite you to re-visit our website, The POORHOUSE STORY (a clearinghouse for information about 19th century American poorhouses) at http://www.poorhousestory.com We just posted a major addition of new poorhouse material: Indenture Bonds from the BURLINGTON County Poorhouse. These were transcribed and generously submitted by Erika Cowan [ecowan@uscom.com] The page includes historic background information about the practice of "binding out" children from poorhouses. (And other information about different types of indentured servitude.) DIRECTIONS: At the homepage (link above) click on POORHOUSES BY STATE, then on NEW JERSEY on the table of states. If you will scroll down to the section on Records, you will see the entry (with a yellow NEW arrow). (NOTE: If you have visited the site recently, you may have to click on REFRESH on your browser to see the new information.) There are other pages on the site which may give you some interesting perspective on poorhouses. They are off the homepage and include: the HISTORY page and the LETTER TO GENEALOGISTS as well as FEATURED ARTICLES. There are great tips for researching poorhouse records for yourself on the RECORDS page; and you might want to subscribe to our (almost) monthly newletter (which you can do in the lower right corner of the homepage). The information on our site will only grow through the submissions of generous readers. If you would like to e-mail me ... please do so off-list because I cannot maintain subscriptions to as many lists as we post messages on. (You can use an e-mail link off one of our web pages.) We hope you enjoy the site! Thanks, Linda Crannell (aka=The Poorhouse Lady)
