I posted this same message to the Rootsweb Burlington County Board, so I apologize for any duplication! I am not a SHINN researcher, and in doing my own census research, I stumbled across the following entry and thought I'd post it (I've only included the vital stats). 1920 Federal Census NARA Film # 625-195, Connecticut, Waterbury City, Ward 3, ED 456, pg. 22B, lines 80-84 [Ancestry.com Image #44] House # 1068 Street = West Main St. SHINN, Ridgeway, head, R, M, W, 45, M, birthplace = NJ, fathers bp = NJ, mothers bp = NJ, Occupation = Minister, place of work = church. ... ould someone help me with my Collins/Coles line? I have as one of 8 children a Hannah Coles b abt 1755 who married Peter String. Hannaqh was the daughter of Alice Collins ( who died after 1777, but I have nothing else on her or her line). Was she married to THOMAS COLES ( b abt 1734-d. April 9, 1777) OR was she married to Samuel Coles b abt 1738? Were Samuel and Thomas Coles brothers, sons of Samuel Coles (b May 8, 1681) and Mary Kendall b abt 1680? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me on this line. I'm new to this list and am searching for relatives of, or information on the Harold Morse family. Here's the information that I have obtained from a great aunt's effects, and a living mutual cousin: - Harold W Morse, b.3/26/1886, in or near Greig, Lewis Co, NY. He was the son of either George or William Morse (George and William were sons of Jacob Morse of Greig who died in the Civil War. Jacob's daughter Margaret was my gg-grandmother). - Harold W Morse owned and/or operated jewelry store in or around Mount Holly, NJ in about the 1930-40s time frame. - Harold Morse (Harold W's son??) Married Pauline Unknown on 4/15/1948 at an unknown location. I would appreciate any information or clues on finding a connection to this family. Thanks Dick Singer
Marie: You should find the census for Fair Lawn in Saddle River Township. 1900 is District 39, 1910 is District 51 and 1920 is Districts 111 thru 114. I don't believe the 1890 census for Bergen County survived, only parts of Hudson County. I live in Fair Lawn, so if you have anyone buried at the cemetery in town I'd be glad to go over and check it out for you. Suzanne
Could someone please advise what is the enumeration district for Fair Lawn New Jersey in the 1890, 1900, 1910 and 1920 Census. Thank you, Marie Drummond

Anybody familiar with a burial ground named after Thomas Lambert, a Quaker? There is reference to this site in the Chesterfield MM Minutes about 1790 following the death of Thomas Lambert. From the Minutes it would appear to be in the area of Chesterfield or Crosswicks, Burlington Co. and is apparently near or adjacent a river. There was also a reference to members of the Monthly Meeting being directed to go forth and remove all the headstones from that burial ground rendering the individual gravesites without markings of any sort. (Not Uncommon) This act being ordered in the mid to late 1790's as best I recall. Thank you, Erwin Kirby

Hello List, Okay this is abit unusual, but a friend of mine found a website about old Indian medicine bottles, and to my surprise, another variation of my goofy surname came up. it lists a bottle: COMPOUND / SENEKA BALSAM / G. M. SHAMALIA, PROP. / LAMBERTVILLE, N.J. Does anyone have a clue about this? Thanks , Lora

Had she been adopted her name would have changed, and she would have been listed as having been an adopted child--not as 'taken in'. 'Taken in' to me designates an unofficial standing in the family--not a legal adoption. Joan

Thanks to all that replied to my inquiry. I have always assumed that the parents of these children were deceased, but, am not sure if they were always adopted by the family. Perhaps Godparents or named guardians for the child. In one case Anna Kennedy is a taken child of James Carter and family. I do not see in the census of 1900 or 1910 that her surname ever changed, although my father-in-law always considered her a cousin (of sorts, as a Carter daughter married a Demore brother, FILs uncle). I guess I have been overthinking this. Once again, thank you for the input. Diane DeMore Burlington County Website Co-ordinator http://www.shovergen.com/njburlin/index.html -------------------
