    3. Hello Everyone - The following were sent to me by a friend, I hope you enjoy them as much as I did. :-) "Actual Epitaphs from Gravestones" On the grave of Ezekiel Aikle in East Dalhousie Cemetery, Nova Scotia: Here lies Ezekiel Aikle Age 102 The Good Die Young. In a London, England cemetery: Ann Mann Here lies Ann Mann, Who lived an old maid But died an old Mann. Dec. 8, 1767 In a Ribbesford, England, cemetery: Anna Wallace The children of Israel wanted bread and the Lord sent them manna, Old clerk Wallace wanted a wife, and the Devil sent him Anna. Playing with names in a Ruidoso, New Mexico, cemetery: Here lies Johnny Yeast Pardon me for not rising. A lawyer's epitaph in England: Sir John Strange Here lies an honest lawyer, And that is Strange. Someone determined to be anonymous in Stowe, Vermont: I was somebody. Who, is no business Of yours. Lester Moore was a Wells, Fargo Co. station agent for Naco, Arizona in the cowboy days of the 1880's. He's buried in the Boot Hill Cemetery in Tombstone, Arizona: Here lies Lester Moore Four slugs from a .44 No Les No More. In a Georgia cemetery: "I told you I was sick!" John Penny's epitaph in the Wimborne, England, cemetery: Reader if cash thou art In want of any Dig 4 feet deep And thou wilt find a Penny. More fun with names with Owen Moore in Battersea, London, England: Gone away Owin' more Than he could pay. Someone in Winslow, Maine didn't like Mr. Wood: In Memory of Beza Wood Departed this life Nov. 2, 1837 Aged 45 yrs. Here lies one Wood Enclosed in wood One Wood Within another. The outer wood Is very good: We cannot praise The other. On a grave from the 1880's in Nantucket, Massachusetts: Under the sod and under the trees Lies the body of Jonathan Pease. He is not here, there's only the pod: Pease shelled out and went to God. The grave of Ellen Shannon in Girard, Pennsylvania is almost a consumer tip: Who was fatally burned March 21, 1870 by the explosion of a lamp filled with "R.E. Danforth's Non-Explosive Burning Fluid" Oops! Harry Edsel Smith of Albany, New York: Born 1903--Died 1942 Looked up the elevator shaft to see if the car was on the way down. It was. In a Thurmont, Maryland, cemetery: Here lies an Atheist All dressed up And no place to go. In a cemetery in England: Remember man, as you walk by, As you are now, so once was I, As I am now, so shall you be, Remember this and follow me. To which someone replied by writing on the tombstone: To follow you I'll not consent, Until I know which way you went.

    3. Bill, Do you have any information on William S. Venable and his ancestry? William S. Venable was listed in the 1850 census in Moorestown and later moved to Deerfield, Cumberland Co. He was born 05 Sep 1815 and died 06 Feb 1905. His father was Thomas Venable and his mother was Rebecca? I know nothing more about Thomas or Rebecca. Could it be the John you've listed is a brother to William S.? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. ______________________________________ Bob Howey robert.howey@thomastechsolutions.com Researching in New Jersey and Pennsylvania: HOWEY, BOWEN, WOODLIN, HARRIS, VENABLE, SHRINER, CASPER, PAULLIN, WEBBER, TORBERT, SHAW, WELLINGTON, EVERINGHAM, CONOLEY, IRELAN, WALLEN, WHITAKER, WEBB, BARTHALOW (BARKLOWE) _____________________________________ -----Original Message----- From: TEIncNJ@aol.com [mailto:TEIncNJ@aol.com] Sent: Sunday, December 09, 2001 5:00 PM To: NJBURLIN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NJBurlin] CENSUS NJ 1860, Burlington Co., Bordentown Borough p. 816 In a message dated 12/8/2001 2:51:39 PM Eastern Standard Time, MaisieAnn@aol.com writes: > 816 19 1317 1371 DEMAREST Isabella 2 f w NJ > 816 20 1317 1371 DEMAREST George 2/12 m w NJ > 816 21 1317 1371 VENABLE John 40 m w car builder NJ > 816 22 1372 VENABLE Abigail 38 f w NJ > 816 23 1372 VENABLE Charles 20 m w mason NJ > 816 24 1318 1373 VENABLE Emma 16 f w NJ > 816 25 1318 1373 VENABLE Joseph 6 m w NJ > 816 26 1318 1373 DUNN Thomas W. 35 m w trimmer NJ It appears the Demarest, Venable and Dunn families lived next to one another and in one another houses? 1. [NJBurlin] Genealogy Club Meeting This Friday
    2. Michael Gilbert
    3. The Burlington County Genealogy Club meets the first Friday of every month at the Corson Poley Center on Lawrence Street in Burlington. The library will be open from 6pm to 9pm. The meeting will begin at 7pm. There is usually time after the meeting to do additional research in the library, and plenty of helpful experts on-hand. The December meeting will be this Friday, December 7th. At this time, I don't know who the speaker will be. If you need more details or directions, please contact Ricki Lucas at <RLucas916@aol.com>. 1. [NJBurlin] Re: Virus Warnings (from listowner)
    2. Michael Gilbert
    3. As one final addition to the information I've provided about the current virus, one of your fellow list members kindly sent me the following web links with more information. The Sophos link describes how the virus works and provides instructions on how to remove it. MessageLabs offers some quantitative analysis. Sophos: http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/analyses/w32badtransb.html MessageLabs: http://www.messagelabs.com/viruseye/report.asp?id=86 I would also like to reiterate what I said before - taking part in a email activity, especially a mailing list, without anti-virus software is a risky activity, that endangers any data on your own computer, as well as that of anyone with whom you communicate. This is doubly true for those of us who use a Microsoft OS, and triply true if you are using Outlook for email. Again, if any of you receive infected messages which seem to come from this mailing list, please contact me immediately so that I can attend to the problem as quickly as possible. Thanks, Mike <NJBURLIN-ADMIN@RootsWeb.com> <GILBERT-ADMIN@RootsWeb.com>

    3. Hi All, I found a source for the 1709 census of Northampton Twp., Burlington Co. I typed in the new census but I don't think there are any big difference between the two. The source is the Proceedings of the New Jersey Historical Society, Vol. 4, 1849. Millersville University of Pa. added reprints of these old articles as part of their history collection. There have been other changes to the site, more links and additions of cousins information. The file you included was 'apparently' corrupted. I am not able to access the email nor am I able to delete same. It is very simply stuck between here and some unknown universe. An email only please. 2. Deborah Johnson
    3. Hello Everyone - It has come to my attention that while it's kind of me to share this information with the NJ lists I'm on, in case someone is researching this line and not on the right list for where those Surnames are predominately located, it can be quite cumbersome for others to wade through the rather large posts of the articles and such, especially in digest mode, completely understandable, and something I had not thought of. Therefore, I will no longer be posting this information to this list, however, if you have a desire to continue to receive this information on the Carll line and other surnames connected, you can do either of the following: 1. Subscribe to any of the following and you will still get the posts: NJSALEM-L-request@rootsweb.com NJGLOUCE-L-request@rootsweb.com NJCUMBER-L-request@rootsweb.com 2. E mail me directly and I will add you to my address book and send them to you along with the above lists. I use a different e mail address for those lists due to the number of lists I'm on, that e mail address is: delerani@hotmail.com Thank you for your time. Take care - Deb
