PHILADELPHIA: EVERTS & PECK. 1883 PRESS OF J.B. LIPPINCOTT & CO., PHILADELPHIA. Early Settlement. - As to the time when the township of Shamong began to be inhabited by the whites, and who the first families were that removed within its borders, no accurate account can be given. The first white settler of whom any authentic facts are known was Micajah Willets, who settled in the western portion of the township prior to the Revolutionary war, and chose a spot on which to dwell near Indian Mills, where he erected for himself and family a rude dwelling, and cleared up a small farm, and engaged in tilling the soil. His family consisted of Benjamin, Richard, John, Mary, and Hephzibah. Benjamin married Rebecca Howard, and resided on a portion of the old homestead. His children were Samuel, Amos, Micajah, Benjamin, Joseph, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Lidie, Beulah, and John. Samuel, Amos, Micajah, and Benjamin are all dead. Joseph married Edith Jones, and resides in Southampton township. Elizabeth married Vincent Prickett, and resides at Tabernacle village. Rebecca married John Alloway, and lives at Marlton. Lidie married S.C. Mason, and resides at Trenton, NJ Beulah married Joshua Jones, and removed to Southampton township. John married Rachel Huston, and resides at Tabernacle. First Branch. - Richard married Hannah Howard, and resided at Tabernacle until the time of his death, which occurred in 1847. He had several children. John married and lived at Tabernacle until his death in 1827. He raised a large family. Mary married John Corry, and resides in the township. Hephzibah married Joshua Cline, and resides in the township, and reared up a large family of boys and girls. It's not much, hope it helps
Does anyone have any information on the Micah Willits family in Burlington, especially interested in his daughter Hepzabah who married Joshua Cline. Thank you in advance. -- Rochelle
Is anyone on this list researching or descended from Richard C WILSON and Susan GOMINGER, who moved to Bordentown from Philadelphia in the 1840's? Wilson was a ship builder, in business with William Clinton at Bordentown. Wilson's second wife was Sarah Imlay. Richard & Susan's children were Joseph, md. Sarah Schuyler; Anna, who married Jacob Robbins Ford of Allentown; William, md Kate Smith; and Alexander, whose wife was named Eleanor. Richard & Sarah Imlay's children were Susan & Richard. Richard's wife was named Mary Thompson Huff. My main interest in this family is Susan Gominger Wilson (1811-1847), who was an aunt to my great grandmother, Agnes Gominger Nelson of Bordentown. Although I have no connection to any of the people in the photo, I offer this bit of information. It sounds as though your "playing card size" picture may be what is called a "calling card" or "carte de visite," popular during the Civil War era. This web site will show you what I mean. http://www.ushistoricalarchive.com/cds/cwportraits.html Diane Altona [email protected] On Dec 2, 2005, at 5:00 AM, [email protected] wrote: > > > NJBURLIN-D Digest Volume 05 : Issue 194 > > Today's Topics: > #1 William "Billy"Wilkerson, b. Hello..... I am posting as a NON subscriber to the WILKERSON list . I have a "studio"picture of a young man taken by "J.S.Walker,Photographer, Mill Street, Mount Holly N.J." My cousin who was closest to our Grand mom [ b. 1867 Shamong Twp Burlington Cty-] has written on the back. " Billy Wilkerson , came to Florida with M J [ Wills] and Malcolm [McMullen} " They were our great grandparents. Malcolm McMullen was b. 1840 [GA} & Martha Jane Wills abt 1846 in Burlington NJ, and they came to Florida, --Pinellas or Hillsborough county ---in about 1879 with their 3 daughters. I believe that this young man "Billy" would be about the same age [b. 1840s ] as Malcolm and is probably late 20s-early 30s in the picture. I know nothing else about him. Does anyone on these lists know about this Billy Wilkerson ? I would be pleased to send this "playing card size" picture to a descendant. of his. Email me privately as I do not receive Wilkerson List.Thanks. Steph Powell Cecil [email protected]
Hello All, I just added to my web site a map of Wilingborough and Westhampton Twps. 1680-1690 which shows the names of property owners. Any questions, comments or problems please email me. Alan http://www.midatlanticarchives.com <http://www.midatlanticarchives.com/>
It is the church associated with the Cemetery that I would really like to have a contact at. I know whos' in the cemetery. I am just hoping that the church will have the burial information, like last address, next to kin, undertaker etc. If anyone can get me a contact I would be most greatful! Linda Skehan [email protected]
The cemetery is located inside the gates of Ft. Dix. You shouldn't have a problem getting in, you can most likely get a pass at the gate. They will probably require you to show your drivers license, car registration and proof of insurance. Depending on what security alert is in effect they may search your car. And yes, my car has been searched even though I have an ID card. Not a big deal, they don't bite. The worst that will happen is that you have to turn around and leave. If you are interested in burials at Pointville Cemetery you can contact me and I will send you the information on your surnames. -- Doris
Yes, its true, the only way you can gain access to Ft.Dix, and hence the cemetery, is if you have two picture IDs and a decal on the windshield of your vehicle.
Well part of Fort Dix is not actually behind the gate. I drive down Rt 539 all the time and it says on a sign that you are entering Fort Dix. So there is a good chance that that cemetary is not actually in the gated section of the town. Looking where Texas Ave is Maguire is to the right and Fort Dix is to the left. Maybe I'll take a ride out that way, it's not too far, and see if this section, Pointville, is in the gated section. I work at another military installation, so I might be able to get on the base either way. I am also waiting to see the response for Pointville. My understanding is that it is on the base now?? And acess is limited since 9-11. I don't know if this is true. But I know I have people buried there. Just by chance, who are you looking for? Linda Skehan [email protected] There is a web sight that has pointville records listed. But now all, if I can find that piece of paper in my many piles, I'll get back again to you.
The church is no longer there, may have been moved....seems I read that recently. It was a Methodist church and the cemetery is now on Texas Ave., Ft. Dix. I have done the Pointville Cemetery and can help you with burials there. -- Doris ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, November 21, 2005 6:23 PM Subject: [NJBurlin] Re: NJBURLIN-D Digest V05 #190 >I am also waiting to see the response for Pointville. I have read that it was moved - where ? How about the records associated with this church - are they available ? Was this a Methodist Church ? Any assistance very much appreciated. Hi Michael, I found Burlington County with no trouble. Haven't searched a lot yet but founnd my grand-uncle Clarence J. Rambo in Medford. I didn't have to give my name or anything either. After going to their site, I clicked on the WW1 registration link and from that page scrolled down and clicked the state then on that next page I clicked the county. And on that page was a link to each letter in the alphabet. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Michael Gilbert" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, November 18, 2005 12:43 PM Subject: [NJBurlin] Re: WW1 Draft Registration Cards > Hi folks, > > I think that this topic has reached the end of its usefulness for this > mailing list.
