Thanks to all who responded to my comment about the string of repeated quotes within an email. Perhaps people will now simply delete what they do not need to include in their response. I just did that with this email. Now let's drop the subject and get on with our "digging up" Burlington ancestors! Diane Altona San Diego
The re and re-re peating of previous texts IS annoying and often counter productive AND easily eliminated. As to actual duplicates, I am seeing some ALMOST identical messages on some lists such as when a book seller changes just a word or two in the subject heading.
Thanks Terri <[email protected]> wrote: Thanks to all who have responded to my question. I'm still getting duplicates -- not all messages -- just a couple here and there. And not just the Burlilngton list -- a few others I'm subbed to as well. Response to Annie - I believe, if anyone were subbed twice to one list, they'd get the entire posting twice. As I reported - I'm in digest mode - only get one "grouped" posting -- and in that posting there have been two of the same message. I'm not going to tie up the list anymore with this issue -- gonna start looking for the answer. Thanks everyone -- Terri ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

To facilitate people efficiently choosing to open or not open a specific posting by what the subject matter is, those who just hit the reply icon on their server will end up with a subject line that only gives the Vol/Issue numbers and no specific subject, thereby causing your post to be arbitarily unopened, and there goes someone who might be of assistance to you. Of the last five messages on 9/29 digest mode, only two were properly subject lined, three essentially had no subject line. I personally hit my 'Write' icon, type in the first 2 or 3 letters such as njb, and my address book pops all those so starting, simply click on the one you want. I then either copy and paste the specific subject line or just retype it into the subject line, no need to put NJBURLIN in front of the subject. The list will automatically follow your query with the other posts with the same subject line, and NOT putting all the strings back into it. So a few seconds to post from 'scratch' saves a lot of irritation to many, and you can be sure your post will be read by those interested in that subject line. Trust this works for others as well as it does for me. Aileen in WA

I don't know - but what I would appreciate is people who are responding directly to a question from someone doingit off list - I absolutley hate opening an e that says thanks Joe or whatever - marge
In response to Diana, I think I would feel more comfortable about responding if I had a format given me. Do we show our response before the query or after? Do we cut and paste?, Copy and paste? I see so many variations, that I am unsure and would benefit from some insight . In response to Terri about duplicate emails: although I don't have your particular problem, I do wish that people would delete the string of repetitions of messages that tag along with their posts, messages that we already read when they were first posted. Is it necessary to repeat the entire string each time there is one more post? It's difficult to find whatever is new information among all the repeats. Thanks and good luck with your research, everyone! Diane Altona

A question please -- I'm asking the list before I bother the list admin -- just in case something's wrong at my end. Is anyone else getting duplicate postings of messages?? I'm in digest mode, so get a group of messages all in one, but have been receiving two copies of some messages in the same digest message. Not just on this list either? Anyone have any input?
