I have been to the Burlington County Library website, and to the Historical Society website as well. The historical society library, as I recall, is only open a couple days a week for a few hours--and not on days when I'll be there. Frustrating. The holdings at the County library are enticing indeed--now where shall I stash my husband and my greys while I lose myself there!? (They know me too well--I left them on a park bench and promised I'd only be a minute at the Bethlehem (PA) library last time we were back east. Who knew a minute was so short?) I hadn't thought of Bordentown--I'll check it out---thanks. 3. During this time period (my ancestor also came over in 1682 to Crosswicks - Dr. Roger Parke - I never have been able to find out what ship he came on- wonder if they were on the same one???) folks were buried on their own land - very few if any were in church yards like they had been in England - there really were no churches and the Quakers had just a meeting house which was essentially a log cabin....so you would need to find out where there land is. I know that my ancestor Dr. Roger Parke who moved up to Hopewell from Crosswicks was buried on his land. However "progress" occurred and the current owner of the land plowed under the graveyard and his stone....something that unfortunately happens all to often. Since Crosswicks is now in the middle of Trenton NJ - a very populated area - I doubt seriously that anything would be left of family graveyards unless you are extremely lucky from this time period and if something is left it will most likely be a small stone with no readable letters. I'm sorry to be discouraging about this but just wanted you to be aware that you are probably looking for a needle in a haystack at best. Susan Avery formerly of Flemington, Hunterdon Co. NJ - I also know the area pretty well & worked in Trenton and went through it often On Fri, 20 Oct 2006 10:56:45 EDT [email protected] writes: > Hi-- > > I'm new to this list--I'm planning a trip to NJ, and thought I'd > like to see > my forebears' gravesites--if I can find them. Can anyone shed light on what cemeteries in the area are the right age and right denomination for my search? thanks- Marcia Wood Hecker St Louis MO --- Marcia- My experience has been that you will likely not find any graves for these early ancestors. First of all the early Quakers didn't tend to mark their graves with any sort of standard tombstone. A perfect example would be the graves of John Darnell and Hannah Borton Darnell on the PAWS farm in Burlington County. The little family graveyard is on public display along the Nature Walk at PAWS Farm and are very representative of the early family plots. John and Hannah are buried along with other family members on the hillside right on the farm. The family burial plot includes graves marked only by small bricks with the initials JD and HBD on them for John and Hannah. This would have been the custom although many small family farm graves are not marked at all and have long since been lost to development. Plus many of the very earliest Quaker graves were never marked at all--it would have been considered ostentatious and worldly. Joan

    3. There is a book in the Burlington Co library in Mt Holly that has some cemeteries listed. My fifth great grandmother, Ann Bennett Reeve is buried in St Andrew's Cemetery in Mt Holly. She died in 1744. You can barely read her stone but it is there and also in the listing. Joan ------- Well, I finally found the information in my files and it shoots my above theory to pieces, since John PIMM died intestate and his estate was settled in 1756 and not 1765... >From New Jersey Colonial Documents, Calendar of Wills, page 254... 1756, Jan. 1. PIMM, John, of Evesham Twsp., Burlinton Co. Int. Mary, widow, declines to administer in favour of her son-in-law, Daniel LIPPINCOT. 1756, Jan. 3. Since the children of Daniel LIPPINCOTT and wife Elizabeth were mostly born prior to 1756 at least some of the children would have to have been children of Elizabeth PIMM--but the two children, Lydia and Sarah, mentioned in the Evesham Twp. marriage records COULD possibly have been the children of an earlier wife: John LIPPINCOTT b: 1 OCT 1744 Sarah LIPPINCOTT b: ABT. 1746 Lydia LIPPINCOTT b: ABT. 1750 James LIPPINCOTT b: ABT. 1752 Rachel LIPPINCOTT b: ABT. 1754 Anna LIPPINCOTT b: ABT. 1756 Daniel LIPPINCOTT b: ABT. 1758 Benjamin LIPPINCOTT b: ABT. 1760 Levi LIPPINCOTT b: ABT. 1760 Jonathan LIPPINCOTT b: ABT. 1762 Micajah LIPPINCOTT b: ABT. 1764 Joan
