If you do contact the Burlington Library and/or the Historical Society and learn that they have a list of burials in the Timbuctoo Cemetery, would you please email me the basic reference information? I'd like to know, too, but I don't want to horn in on your request to them because I know they are busy people. If it turns out they do have a list, or you learn who does, I can then contact the proper people to ask my question. Thanks, and good luck in your quest!

It's on Church St. off of Rancocas Rd., down the street from the Court House. It's an African American Cemetery which has Civil War burials. I tried going back there a few years ago and stopped to ask a man who lived there about it and was told it wouldn't be safe to go back there and that it was all overgrown. Since then I have heard that the Boy Scouts cleaned it up a year or two ago. I have no idea if a list of people who are buried there was made but you can contact the Burlington County Library at http://www.bcls.lib.nj.us/ and see if they know anything about it or NJ Historical Society at http://www.jerseyhistory.org/index.html -- Doris
We were there one day a few years ago and it is well kept and quite a site. There are Revolutionary War and Civil War graves there. Right now all I can tell you is that it is on the road to Pemberton. Norman will look it up on the map later. It is not listed on most maps. Suzanne, OK, you are correct - John Silpath married Rebecca Thompson. However, I was also correct when I reminded you that in this case we're talking about the Rebecca Thompson who was the daughter of JOHN & Elizabeth Thompson - not the Rebecca Thompson who was the daughter of HENRY & Elizabeth Thompson. Now, the "long story" about Henry's wife NOT being Elizabeth HAMMEL.... >From the get-go I have said, "where's the proof"? All I got was "see the Will of Elizabeth Hammel's father, John Hammel in which he names his daughter, Elizabeth Thompson, as his executrix". And I have always said Elizabeth could have married any number of men with the last name of Thompson - how do we know it was Henry Thompson? Well, I finally got the answer through the Burlington County Historical Society Library. Elizabeth Hammel married a JAMES Thompson. James was from Burlington City and he died in 1729/30, which is why he is not mentioned in the Will of Elizabeth's father - her father didn't write his Will until 2 March 1734, and Elizabeth was still a widow at that time. James' Will abstract mentions that there are children, but they are not named. Also, James Thompson was a Sheriff in Burlington City in 1710. We have the Baptism record of Elizabeth Hammel which not only names her parents, but also her grandparents - Jan/John Joosten and Jannettie Molenar. In an unpublished deed of Elizabeth's father, John Hammel, he mentions a daughter of Elizabeth and James Thompson, named "Jannet". The Hammel family can be found in the records of St. Mary's (Episcopalian) Church in Burlington, and they record that Elizabeth has a daughter named Jannetie. Conclusion: Elizabeth Hammel married a James Thompson (not Henry), sometime before 1729/30, and they had at least one daughter named Janet/Janettie Thompson (again, sometime before 1729/30). James died 1729/30. Elizabeth was still a widow in March 1734 when her father wrote his Will, and thus her name at that time was Elizabeth Thompson. After he father died in Sept 1734, Elizabeth married a Robert Chambers and they moved to Middlesex County. Robert's Will is witnessed by a John Hammel, brother of Elizabeth. I'm still working on learning the maiden name of the Elizabeth who did marry our Henry Thompson. It took me 5 years to prove it was not Hammel - it will probably take me another 5 years to prove what it was! Gotta run! Keep in touch! BlankI've been waiting for this! My Henry THOMPSON (b. between 1668 & 1653, probably in England) was among those "p'sons as were imported into this province and brought to bee Registered in the Secretary's books of Records". He was indentured for 7 years upon the account of William Dockwra (an East Jersey Proprietor). That was in 1 December 1684. The next time I find anything about Henry THOMPSON is when he purchases property in Mansfield Twp, Burlington Co, NJ, from Nathan HOLWELL on 4 May 1710, and Hugh HUTCHINS on 10 June 1710, and from Joshua SMITH on 8 October 1724. The land indenture from Hugh HUTCHINS states, ".... thirty and four acres of land being that land whereon the said Henry THOMSON now dwells...." - which means Henry THOMPSON lived in Mansfield Twp, Burlington Co, NJ, before 1710. >From his Will (which was written on 10 July 1732), I know that he married someone named "Elizabeth" (it was NOT Elizabeth Hammel - long story), and they had 4 children: John THOMPSON, b. abt 1702, m. Elizabeth STAPLES Thomas THOMPSON, abt. 1704, m. Agnus (nee Unknown) Dinah THOMPSON, b abt 1706, m. Robert HOBKINS/HOPKINS Rebecca THOMPSON, b. abt 1708, m. What was Elizabeth's maiden name, and when/where did they marry? When/where were the children born?
