Wm. Swaim, his grandfather, William Turner, fought in the American Revolutionary War from New Jersey. William Turner's widow, Hannah is listed in a later census, but I have been unable to confirm her maiden name. She could have been related to Tanton Earl and to Tanton Turner, but not sure.

The most detailed biographies for Col William and son James Swaim is under Wells Indiana and spelled Swain with an N in the header, so that even though the body contains Swaim, if you search for Swaim with an M you can miss both biographies. Under Inidana, Wells Co. there are other Swaim biographies for some of William's other children. Also, if you yahoo or google Ossian Indiana Civil War you can find pictures of the very impressive monument for Col. William Swaim.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/oQB.2ACE/1590.7.1 Message Board Post: I visited the Timbuctoo Cemetery today. I t is a small cemetery. There are a total of 11 grave stones and four graves marked with field stones. There is room for many other graves but there are no visible markers. All of the graves except one have GAR medallions with a small US flag in the flag holder. The grave that does not have a GAR medallion is marked with a field stone and there was a flag with a broken flag stick on the ground. I think the medallion was stolen. The inscriptions on all the grave stones are in poor condition and hard to read. I was able to identify 10 of the graves stones recorded by Denise Davis and Sharon Fitzpatrick. The grave stone of Frisby Parker was not legible (to me). The cemetery is being maintained and now has brass plaque mounted on a small stone base. TIMBUCTOO CIVIL WAR MEMORIAL CEMETERY WE HONOR THE BRAVE AFRICAN-AMERICAN MEN FROM THE COMMUNITY WHO JOINED THE UNION ARMY IN THE FIGHT AGAINST SLAVERY DURING THE CIVIL WAR. Armstrong, Lewis – Addition - Aged 70 years. Parker, Eliza – Correction – I think she was 44 years old but she may have been 11. The upright part of the numbers that look like 11 are very clear but both numbers have faint markings that make them look like 44. Please remember all the markers were hard to read. This is just how I read them. Curt Miller (I got to get a digital camera.)

I'm going to be studying this cemetery for the next few months, so I'll have a complete listing of surviving headstones and probably some information about the people buried there. Give me until about mid-December and drop me an email if you're interested in seeing the results.
