A German Miner Killed by a Party of Hungarians. Article Text: Morristown, N. J., April 9.--A horrible murder occurred Monday night in the mining village of Hibernia, nine miles from here, where Hungarians are principally employed. A quarrel broke out between three of a party of miners in a saloon about the payment for some drinks. Paul MATIAZOOKI, aged 38, a German by birth, who started the quarrel, is very unpopular, and the other two men set upon him and one of them smashed his skull with a beer bottle. His assailants were Gerbulo BARICKI and John STANIK. After MATIAZOOSKI received the blow from the bottle he was thrown down and brutally kicked. The bartender then helped him out of the saloon, and he staggered to his room in a boarding house near by. Thence he was forcibly taken by his assailants and, all bruised and bleeding and half unconscious, was hanged to a tree. The whole affair lasted only a few minutes. Passers-by found him and cut him down soon after the gang had gone, but life was nearly extinct. He died soon afterward. There is a hot feeling in the neighborhood against the prisoners. The police arrested three of his assailants soon afterward. Two are still sought by the police. The dead man's body was found to be frightfully mutilated. His head and body were a mass of contusions and bruises. His chest was black and blue from the kicking which he had received. The prisoners were taken to the county jail and locked up there, still under the influence of liquor. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NJ-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news!
