However there is a family that might fit...re deeds Bergen. April 1 1754 Abel Smith gentleman of Ceaeoeus, Bergen County, New Jersey, to his sons Job and Daniel Smith of same 1000 pounds, by William Pinhorne deceased and Edward Earl. Signed Abel Smith (X): Wit David Taylor, James Edsal and Reynier van Giesen. This Daniel has many land transfers in Bergen and a son John is mentioned in at least one. John in turn is named as a witness in other deeds not related to his family...so he could have been a clerk at the deed office. He is too old for your John b abt 1771.
