Do you know where your relative was buried? If you do you can contact the cemetery to learn more about the burial. I learned about, and eventually met, some of my genealogy cousins by working backwards. I was trying to determine where my grandparents were buried, followed some clues to Brooklyn, and contacted the cemeteries in the area. As it turned out, there was a family plot of sorts, and there had been a burial in the previous two years. I contacted the funeral home that was listed in the records (which was in New Jersey), the one that took care of all the arrangements for the most recent funeral, and was able to learn the names of the sons who had made the arrangements with the funeral home. A search of the White Pages on-line turned up a phone number (in a third state). Not only did I find my grandparents' plots, but I was able to identify one entire branch that ! no one in my immediate family remembered! If you do not know where your relative was buried you might be able to target a geographic area around his last known address and search the cemeteries there. George Washington Memorial Park is one of the largest in the area (although I do not know if that is the cemetery of choice for the residents of Emerson) and their records are computerized. You may be able to learn something by calling them. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
