He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Palisades Park. Surviving are his wife, Martha Berendts Cappel; a son, Richard Jr. of Palisades Park; and a sister, Johanna in Germany. Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Blackley Funeral Home, Ridgefield, with burial in Crest Haven Memorial Park, Clifton.
