    2. Mike, The 1896 S.S. Campania manifest for Sarah and Ellen says that Sarah is a resident of Rutherford and her destination is "Home". Ellen's destination is friend P. J. Austin at 111 West Passage [Passaic?] Ave, Rutherford. This must have been Sarah's second voyage to the States. There is a Miss Sarah Austin arriving aboard the S.S. St. Paul on 14 Aug 1896, 22, Servant, from Wales. There is a hole in the manifest but it looks like she is going to ...herford. Apparently she was going to family in Rutherford. The 1910 census for George Long lists Sarah J., 35, and William A., 8, as family members. The others listed are William Austin, 37, Border, Margaret Allen, 26, Sister-in-law, and John Mans?, 30, Boarder. William and Margaret were born in England and John in Holland. Apparently the enumerator made a mistake (not unusual), because William is George's brother-in-law, not boarder. When William registered for the draft about 1917, he was living on Herman St., East Rutherford, one block west of Mozart St. He stated was born 20 Jan 1873 in South Wales, Great Britain, a driver for the Borough of Rutherford, and his nearest relative was Mrs. Sara(sic.) Long, 57 Mozart St., East Rutherford. George Long arrived 20 May 1898 aboard the Germanic from Liverpool. He was 30, a painter, last residence Bristol, and his destination was his sister in Rutherford. Also, the 1895 New Jersey census shows John Dabenett(sic.), Rose, Nellie and Alexander Foster in the Borough of Rutherford at Dwelling 666, Family 725, Individuals 3386 -3389. Alexander Foster was still boarding with the family in the 1910 census, possibly in the same house as, but at least the family enumerated before, George and Sarah Long. It looks like lots of family in Rutherford! Joe Suplicki In a message dated 12/24/2008 10:15:04 A.M. Rutherford, she was with a friend Ellen Thomas who was staying at the same address who was born abt 1879 Llanrhydian Glamorgan. In 1900 Sarah Jane Austin was a servant in the home of Theodore Weed who sold Fire Insurance, his family lived on West Passaic? Ave Rutherford, Sarah Jane went on to marry George Samuel Long around 1900/01. Help I can give Over the coming I will be visiting my own records office in Monmouthshire & the one in Hererfordshire, if anyone needs help with any British research, I will do my best to help. 3. Thanks Joe The Sarah Austin on both shipping manifest is the same person who was born Oystermouth nr Swansea. I have asked if anyone could find George Long on the 1900 census, but it seems he is not on there. My main concern now is to find when my 3 x greatgrandmother Sarah Jane Long died I guess bewteen 1920 - 1930 unless she is on the 1930 census, I want to find where she is buried and anything I can find out about her from the time she set foot on U.S soil. There is a slim chance someone in the family might remember or have a photograph of her. I might resort to sending some letters to Dabinetts who still in the area. I have made contact with a family historian who is conected to the family who may help. One thing I learnt today is the amount of errors on the Ellis Island index, I searched my own surname John and found that hundreds of the names were indexed the wrong way around Mike ----- Original Message ----- From: <JSSuplicki@aol.com> To: <njbergen@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, December 26, 2008 9:08 PM Subject: Re: [NJBERGEN] Ellis Island > Mike, > > The 1896 S.S.
