Thank you so much Regina for posting the maps. My ancestors, August and Ellen (ENGLAND) BACH and children, lived in Norwood, Closter and Alpine from abt 1865 to 1905. Are you familiar enough with Norwood to suggest where August Bach might have lived in 1870. Based on the 1870 census, he lived quite near Charles Nordhoff, the magazine editor. August was a farm laborer. Many of his neighbors were boatman, fisherman, carpenters, and coachmen. Also, a merchant named Kohler lived nearby. . The early censuses for this area did not include any street names. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to identify the specific location where individuals lived in 1870 - 1900 in this area?
