His partner in his acrobatic act was also his wife, "Maude" (see the attached picture). Maude was from Dundee in Scotland - her real name was Margaret Low INNES. Jack and Maude had a child, Alma Jessica Belfield (born on 9 March 1917 in England). Sadly, Maude died in 1929 from TB in Dundee. By this stage, Jack had "taken up" with another music hall artiste and it's not clear whether he had any contact with his daughter, Alma. Maude's sister, Williamina (also sometimes spelt Wilhelmina) Bruce emigrated to New Jersey in 1910 with her husband and young son. In 1920, they were living in Haledon, Passaic County - where her husband, James, was driver for the Goodbody estate (copy census attached). In 1921, Maude and little Alma, travelled from Glasgow, Scotland to New York to visit Williamina and her family. In 1929, after Maude's death, Alma (only 12 years old) made the journey from Glasgow to New York again - this time alone. From the 1930 census, she was living with her widowed aunt and cousins at Clinton Avenue, Ridgewood. I would dearly like to know what became of Alma - in the heartfelt hope that she managed to overcome the very sad start to her life, losing her mother at only 12 and having to leave her native Scotland to start a new life in New Jersey. Any assistance that you are able to provide or any guidance on where I might begin my search (being a total novice in US genealogy) would be truly gratefully appreciated.
