Wantage Recorder Friday October 22, 1897 - Hamburg Column Death has again visited our neighborhood and taken from its midst another aged and esteemed resident. We refer to Mrs. Sarah KING, who departed this life precisely 11 o'clock on Friday night of last week, from the effects of bronchitis in conjunction with a pre-weakened condition and the infirmities of age. The deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William SHEPHERD, long ago and lifelong residents of this locality and like them she had spent the most of her life amoungst us and in the vicinity of Stockholm. She was remarkably well acquainted with the people and past events of this section, and highly respected by all who knew her. Long ago she was united in marriage to John KING, who left her a widow some twelve years ago, and her husband having been a soldier of the late war, she was the recipient of a pension which enabled her to build a small house for herself on Lawrence St., wherein she died. They had no children, but she is survived by two brothers, Jacob and Matt. SHEPHERD, of near Stockholm, also a neice and nephew in this village (Hamburg) Her age was about 69 years. The funeral took place from her late home on Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock and from the Baptist church at 2, the pastor, Rev. Mr. THOMPSON officiating. Interment was made in the old churchyard here. Though she has lived her life quietly and unostentatiously amoungst us, she has gone to her final rest, loved, respected and cherished in memory by our whole community.
