Greetings: Since all of you, or your organizations, have a genealogical connection to the Haring Family, I thought you might be interested to know and to announce to your members through your newsletters and web sites that I have just published an article about the settler Jan Pietersen Haring with new information about him. Citation is: Firth Haring Fabend, "Jan Pietersen Haring, 1633-1683: Sightings and Connections, Hoorn, New Amsterdam, New York, and New Jersey," South of the Mountains (The Historical Society of Rockland County), 51 (October-December 2007), 4:3-22. It includes sixteen illustrations and is documented with forty endnotes. The article is based on every certain reference to JPH in the primary records, twenty in all, including his baptism in Hoorn, his marriage in New Amsterdam, the baptisms of six of his seven children, two appointments to the office of schepen, a reference to him as a wheelwright, two references to a land venture in Manhattan, three references to his land holdings on Manhattan, a notarial record in Hoorn in 1680, two references to the deed to the Tappan Patent, and his death. Families into which Jan Pietersen Haring's seven children and their descendants married include Auryansen, Banta, Bertholf, Blanch, Blauvelt, Bogert, Brinkerhoff, De Baun, De Graw, Demarest, De Peyster, Durie, Eckerson, Ferdon, Flierboom, Goetschius, Hogenkamp, Ives, Jones, Lent, Livingston, Kip, Nagel, Peek, Perry, Quackenbush, Quick, Roosevelt, Sickles, Smith, Smock, Van Antwerp, Van Dalslen, Van Emburg, Van Houten, Verbryck, Wortendyke, and Zabriskie and no doubt others. New Ulm was one center of emmigrants from Wolfurt in the 1850ies to 1880ies in the first wave of emmigration. Therefore you will find there many names which are common in Wolfurt and in the Bergen county area, which was the main emigration area of the embroidery crisis driven emmigrants, which was the second wave of emmigration. The only indication I have is, that his cousin Rudolf Kalb, who emmigrated to the USA in Oct. 1911 declared in his immigration declaration, that he wants to go to his cousin Eduard Bildstein in West Hoboken, NJ. Before 1908 the embroiderers had a good income at home and no reason to emigrate. In 1912, when Martin and Josef immigrated into the US they declared to go to Albert Schwaerzler, a friend from Wolfurt in W. Hoboken; so their brother was not there any more. And the mayors secratary book tells me, that Eduard has got the citizenship of Lochau, a village 10 miles from here and died there on 04-20-1961 Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have corresponded with Heir Heim in Wolfurt. He is related to the Bildstein family (and to me). My relative, Bernhardt Gantner was the son of Anna Maria Bildstein and Franz Gantner. Anna Bildstein was the daughter of Bernhardt Bildstein and Magdalena Doerler/Dorler. Are you related to these Bildsteins? I understand that Franz Gantner made church vestments. I will see what I can learn about Martin and Joseph. From the census records it looks as if the brothers lived together for quite some time. I will try to find some information about Eduard, too. So far I have found no wives or children (except for the descendants of Anna Bildstein). Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
