Bischoff, whose last residence, according to the SSI, was Fort Lee, Bergen Co. Frank died in October 1973. Wish I had a more exact date but I've looked everywhere... Frank was married to Florence J. Jennings, whose mother was Mary Elizabeth Donahue. I've been looking for this family for 10 years and finally found them in the NY Metropolitan area. However, clues are few and far between. I would really like to know what became of Florence Jennings Bischoff, and hope that her husband's obituary will give a clue. Or, if anyone familiar with Bergen Co. research will give me a heads up on how to proceed, I would be so appreciative. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I know it's been almost 4 years since this post. I am Uipko's great grandson Douglas Keith Stonehouse, formerly of Midland Park. My grandfather was Elmer Jelto Stonehouse and my father Alvin Douglas Stonehouse. I just uncovered the family history of the Steenhuis's from Wildervanck. Uipko's father was Jelto Steinhuis born in 1865 in Wildervanck to parents Lammert Steenhuis(B:1835)/Antje Zuidland. Lammert's wife Antje died in 1879 and he came to America with Jelto in 1880. Jelto is listed in Ridgewood on the 1895 census with Lammert and Jelto and Jelto's wife(Nandala not sure of the spelling) and other child Nancy. Five years later Uipko and Nancy are living as boarders with Lammert in Ridgewood with the Smith family. Not sure what happened to Uipko's parents after 1895 census. Nancy Stonehouse later becomes Nancy Smith of Ridgewood and Glen Rock married to Philip Smith with a son named.! ..Jelto. I have more info if you are interested. Thanks for your time Douglas Keith Stonehouse Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I appreciate it. My great grandfather Uipko Stonehouse was born in 1893 in Ridgewood. I was told by my father Alvin Stonehouse that he was orphaned at the age of 12 and had no family. After doing some searching I find him listed on the 1895 census with a sister Nancy and three other Stonehouse's named(not sure if these names are correct)Gelto(maybe father)Nandala(maybe mother)Lambert(possible grandfather).Uipko's name is of course misspelled and begins with a "Y" but is always misspelled on census records. I find on the 1900 census that Lambert Stonehouse(they have Lemner)is living as a boarder in the Smith house in Ridgewood. It states he is 64 yrs old born in 1835 and a native of Holland and came here in 1880. Above his name is a 7yr old boarder listed as "Coe" and a 9 yr old boarder listed as Nancy. Somewhere between the 1895 census and the 1900 census, the other two Stonehouses' are gone.(deceased??not sure) Lambert also shows up in 1905 but not on th! e 1910 census,so I assume he died between 1906-1909. In 1910, Nancy is 18 and living with the Grahams in Ridgewood as a servant. No way to track her down once she marries....or so I thought. I believe Nancy Stonehouse became Nancy Smith of Ridgewood and Glen Rock, wife of Philip Smith. They had a son named (Gelto)(in 1920 its spelled with a G and 1930 with a J). Uipko also uses that name for his son Elmer Jelto Stonehouse who is my grandfather. I assume that the name of their father on the 1895 census must be Gelto with a G, and they both used that name for their own kids but thought it was spelled with a J. They both ended up marrying Smith's(Uipko married Lydia Smith and Nancy married Philip Smith)Its funny that I'm learning more about Uipko's grandfather, parents, and sister then he ever knew. He had to know he had a sister I assume, though he never mentioned her to anyone to my knowledge. If anyone has any more info i would appreciate it. I just want to prove that these ! people existed.. Thank You Douglas Stonehouse Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If a relative died in Ridgewood between 1896 and 1906 where would they be buried? The last name is Stonehouse from Holland. Two of the Stonehouse's died after the 1895 census and before the 1900 census(Gelto and Nandala Stonehouse)not sure of the spellings on those first names. The third Stonehouse(possibly Lambert)born in 1835 in Holland)dies in Ridgewood between 1906 and 1910. I have looked on findagrave.com and all over Ancestry.com....can't find a clue. So if you aren't well off and you die in Ridgewood between 1896 and 1906 and are Dutch....where would you end up? They came to the US in approx. 1880 from the Netherlands. Gelto's son is my great grandfather Uipko Stonehouse. I appreciate any guidance anyone has...my next step is to start walking cemetaries in the area. Would someone be able to find an obit for Grace Cotter McCorkle, died 12 Oct. 1937 in Ridgewood, N.J. ? I have a brief one from Columbus, Neb. where she previously lived. At the time of her death she had been living with her daughter, Mrs. H.T. Eaton. Martha
Hello, I'd just like to offer an FYI that there are many spellings of the McCORKLE name, going back a few centuries. My great-grandmother's maiden name was Mary CORKILL. Her father was Evan CORKILL b.1827 the Isle of Man. That name is very popular on the Isle of Man, and later in England. But, my 5 years of research found out several things. The CORKILL name sometimes shows up as CORKHILL, CORNHILL, COCKILL, etc. And, the original name in 1600's ? was McCORQUODALE. http://genealogy.about.com/library/surnames/m/bl_name-MCCORQUODALE.htm Betty (near Lowell, MA) List Administrator for: CAN-USA-MIGRATION LAURENTIDES (P.Q.) GAVIN NHROCKIN P.S. My CORKILL great-grandmother was one of 5 siblings who were born and raised in Liverpool, England, but who were "sent to Canada" as "child migrants" in the 1870's. In Canada the over 100,000 are referred to as "British Home Children."
