Is that your database?? Have you tried also gencircles.com and the LDS site, www.familysearch.org to see if anyone has input any information about them. You might also check alternate spelling of SHEPHARD as SHEPHERD, and SHEPPHARD, or SHEPPERD. Pat cw I do not have that particular family group, but do have other SHEPHARD's listed, but they are peripheral families came along with other imports. Nothing on yours, though. All I know of her family is that her father's name was GEORGE SHEPARD. Rachel was married to Garret J. Newkirk (Jul 21, 1780 - Aug. 22, 1818 - Bergen NJ.) Author: edleek1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newjersey.counties.bergen/3294.2.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Relations of Day--Shepherd--married John King. Wantage Recorder Friday October 22, 1897 - Hamburg Column Death has again visited our neighborhood and taken from its midst another aged and esteemed resident. We refer to Mrs. Sarah KING, who departed this life precisely 11 o'clock on Friday night of last week, from the effects of bronchitis in conjunction with a pre-weakened condition and the infirmities of age. The deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William SHEPHERD, long ago and lifelong residents of this locality and like them she had spent the most of her life amoungst us and in the vicinity of Stockholm. She was remarkably well acquainted with the people and past events of this section, and highly respected by all who knew her. Long ago she was united in marriage to John KING, who left her a widow some twelve years ago, and her husband having been a soldier of the late war, she was the recipient of a pension which enabled her to build a small house for herself on Lawrence St., wherein she died. They had no children, but she is survived by two brothers, Jacob and Matt. SHEPHERD, of near Stockholm, also a neice and nephew in this village (Hamburg) Her age was about 69 years. The funeral took place from her late home on Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock and from the Baptist church at 2, the pastor, Rev. Mr. THOMPSON officiating. Interment was made in the old churchyard here. Though she has lived her life quietly and unostentatiously amoungst us, she has gone to her final rest, loved, respected and cherished in memory by our whole community. They resided in Englewood at the time of the 1920 and 1930 censuses. Prior to that, they lived in Brooklyn, having both emmigrated from England. (I believe they married in Brooklyn). Thomas - DOB 1871 Gertrude - DOB 1873 Children: Thomas Raymond, William G., Gertrude BROWN (Smith) Dow, Stanley H., and Robert Arthur (my father). Gertrude's full name was Annie Dora Gertrude COLMER. Her 5 brothers also emigrated from England in the 1890's. Two of them,Arthur Noel Paul COLMER and John Allen COLMER also moved to Englewood as cited in the 1930 censuses and their 1942 WWII Draft Registrations. I am particularly interested in finding death certificates and obitutaries for any of the above, especially Thomas BROWN and Gertrude COLMER Brown. I I also would enjoy corresponding with any Brown or Colmer second cousins, etc. Thanks. 1. [NJBERGEN] RIDGEWOOD - ALMA BELFIELD/BRUCE
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: vmemilyk Surnames: Belfield Bruce Innes Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newjersey.counties.bergen/3296/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi I am researching an ancestor (John Watson Belfield - known as Jack Volta) who was a music hall (vaudeville) artist. His partner in his acrobatic act was also his wife, "Maude" (see the attached picture). Maude was from Dundee in Scotland - her real name was Margaret Low INNES. Jack and Maude had a child, Alma Jessica Belfield (born on 9 March 1917 in England). Sadly, Maude died in 1929 from TB in Dundee. By this stage, Jack had "taken up" with another music hall artiste and it's not clear whether he had any contact with his daughter, Alma. Maude's sister, Williamina (also sometimes spelt Wilhelmina) Bruce emigrated to New Jersey in 1910 with her husband and young son. In 1920, they were living in Haledon, Passaic County - where her husband, James, was driver for the Goodbody estate (copy census attached). In 1921, Maude and little Alma, travelled from Glasgow, Scotland to New York to visit Williamina and her family. In 1929, after Maude's death, Alma (only 12 years old) made the journey from Glasgow to New York again - this time alone. From the 1930 census, she was living with her widowed aunt and cousins at Clinton Avenue, Ridgewood. I would dearly like to know what became of Alma - in the heartfelt hope that she managed to overcome the very sad start to her life, losing her mother at only 12 and having to leave her native Scotland to start a new life in New Jersey. Any assistance that you are able to provide or any guidance on where I might begin my search (being a total novice in US genealogy) would be truly gratefully appreciated. With best wishes Vicky Kells Cardiff, Wales, UK Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
