Was this the John Willis who was married to Rachel Doremus? Was he a Capt. in the Revolution? If so, I have his family, from the following sources: Eberhart, Edith Whitcraft, The Doremus Family in America, 1687-1987, 1990, p. 41; “Baptismal Register of Second River (Belleville) Dutch Reformed Church, 1727-1794” in Genealogical Magazine of New Jersey, Jan 1928, p. 128; Kelly, Arthur, Vital Records of the Protestant Dutch Reformed Church at Acquackanonk, 1977 (reprinted 1992). I would be happy to post the family group I have, if anyone is interested. I've just read "Franklin Lakes: Its History and Heritage" by Maria Braun. In it she mentions that Spring Lake Farm in Wyckoff was the home of Captain John Willis. Does anyone know if this farm still exists? Or where it would have been located? Regards, Jean **************Get fantasy football with free live scoring. Sign up for FanHouse Fantasy Football today. Sorry, folks, there's an error in what I wrote yesterday - in the third paragraph it should say "And indeed the list of members of the Schraalenburgh church does list JOHANNIS Haring and Annetjen Outwater among those joining in that year". While I'd like to think this doesn't happen, there are errors in the church records - whether they occurred during transcription (unlikely in this case) or in the original writing down, we don't know. Ackerman's genealogy of the Harings lists a first son for second generation Abraham Jans Haring named Jan. It would be expected that Abraham would name a son for his father Jan Pieters Haring - so far, so good. However Ackerman follows the son as *Johannis* Abraham Haring # 3.35 and says he married Annetjen Outwater, and that they joined the Schraalenburgh church in 1733. And indeed the list of members of the Schraalenburgh church does list Abraham Haring and Annetjen Outwater among those joining in that year. In this case it turns out that there is an error in the church records. Following the name Annetjen Outwater (as occurring the least frequently and so requiring the fewest lookups), I find that Annetjen and her husband Johannis Shurrig/Schury baptized five daughters at the church: Catarina in 1731; Maria in 1733; Annetjen in 1735; Elizabeth in 1737; and Rachel in 1739. No record of any sons, nor any record of the daughters marryng in the Schraalenburgh church. So it is safe to presume that Abraham Jans Haring's first son Jan did die young, or at least before marrying, and the Schraalenburgh records err in stating that a couple named Johannis Haring and Annetjen Outwater joined the church in 1733 - it must have been Johannis Schury and Annetjen Outwater who joined at that time. My grandfather was William Joseph Kennedy and his brother was a James J. who married Margaret Mary Murphy. They were the children of John Joseph Kennedy and Johanna Tierney Kennedy (we think from Tipperary Ireland) who came to American in the 1860s to Peoria IL. I don't know how much you have found out since your post but the John & Johanna's children were Michael, Francis Thomas, James J., John, William, Jerry, Margaret, and Mary. They migrated from Illinois to NJ - Bergen County around 1900. Most kids b. in Peoria, IL, then Francis and James were b. Champaign, IL and around 1884 apx. they moved to Chicago. John Joseph Kennedy (my g-grandfather and your gggg-grandfather) was a blacksmith and some of the sons did that at first, too. They sailed here from Liverpool with Michael the oldest son born in England (while they were waiting or saving for boat?) All the other children were b. in IL. I show on my chart that James children were John Joseph m. an El! len Carboy, James Joseph m. Elsie Dowd, Francis Paul m. Mina Chisholm and Elizabeth m. Karl Maier. Let me know if we are distant cousins! Ellen Clare Kennedy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Does anyone have information about how, when or why David D Haring, the weaver, came to be known as David Daniel Haring? That's what he appears as on sites that deal with his weaving, such as the Metro. Museum of Art. "The Tree of Life", a publication of the Bergen County Historical Society says that he was the son of Daniel A. Haring by his second wife, Mariah Alyie. However he was baptized in Tappan in 1800 as David to parents David and Maria Alyea. I think his father was David Abraham Haring of the 4th generation, Abraham in the 3rd, Abraham in the 2nd and then Jan Pieters Haring the immigrant. Ackerman's Genealogy of the Harings is confusing about this family and differs from what is on the Rockleigh website http://www.rockleigh.org/history/Families/Haring_Family.htm Regina Haring http://www.dutchdoorgenealogy.com
