    1. Re: [NJBERGEN] Book Announcement - Passaic Co Military...
    2. Joan M Lowry
    3. Hi Folks -- On Saturday morning I sent a notice about a Book Announcement for a book on Passaic County Military Records. (The book information began: "Closson Press is proud to announce the release of _Passaic County (N.J.) Military Service Records from World War I and Other Wars_ edited by Janette Maria Pardo and David A. Ranzan, editors of _Sussex County (N.J.) Marriage and Obituary Dates (1814-1903)_ ...") The information provided a link to the publisher's website. I was alerted to the fact that the website address provided could be misleading. It appears with a period at the end - in both cases because it appeared at the end of a sentence. That final period should NOT be included in the address. The correct website is <www.clossonpress.com> I apologize for any inconvenience caused by the extra punctuation marks! Regards, Joan Joan M. Lowry mailto:jmlowry@earthlink.net

Just an note - I'm a Thom, living in the UK. My family are all from Northern Ireland (originally Scotland, I think). I was aware that there is a German/Hungarian branch of Thoms, but had never met any. I think that the historical origin of the name is something like this. THOM originated with the nomadic Magyar people of Hungary... Some of migrated northwards to Germany... And henceforth to Norway/Denmark... THOM crossed over to Scotland and Ireland when the Danes, Vikings, Jutes etc. Hence the connection!! I think this is about right - I studied History at university, and got interested in finding out my own roots from that. I know this isn't specifically useful, but I thought the etymology of the name might be of interest! All the best, and good luck with your search :) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [NJBERGEN] CARLOUGH References in "The History of Mahwah"
    2. Susan Tilleman
    3. One of the subscribers to the CARLOUGH list was kind enough to suggest the following: "Go to the town of Mahwah, NJ and request a book named 'The History of Mahwah' it references the CARLOUGH Family who settled in 1709 in the Ramapo Valley." Unfortunately, I live in suburban San Antonio, Texas, and am unable to travel to New Jersey at this time. Does anyone have access to this book who could either scan those pages for me, send me photocopies of those pages, or post excerpts from that book to this list? Does anyone know of an on-line source for this book? The Lillian that I am looking for is Lillian Sommerville Elliot who was born 4 Jun 1891 in New York. I found Lillian Berthold in the SSI death index with the same birthdate and I was trying to figure out if both Lillian's were the same person. The Lillian Berthold in the census records was born in 1897. I thought that if someone could find an obit, it might show if she were married or single to see if the Lillian who died in March 1974 was my Lillian Sommerville Elliot. Thank you for your reply and the time spent.
