Horn & Hardart Automats were a chain of automat restaurants - I'm sure there was more than one in the big cities like NYC & Philly. Couple years ago I Googled Automat in Google Images and found some pictures. Yes, now I remember why I Googled it. Horn & Hardart Coffee Shops opened two years ago as someone revived the name. Sort of Philly-Jersey answer to Starbucks. There was one in Flemington and one in Somerville. I tried both. Coffee was great - much better than Starbucks. But the revival lasted only a year & those two folded. Last time I ate in a real Automat was in December 1964 or 65. It was the last one in NYC, on W 57th block down from Carnagie Hall. I remember because it was crowded with folks having a last meal in an Automat. Regards to all, Annandale Frank
