When I worked in the ER in California, one of the nurses there was big into botany and taught me a fair amount about local plants, including their scientific names. I had one of those bad outbreaks from poison oak while I was working there, and one day I came in with it on the back of my neck, yet, covered by a huge dressing to keep it invisible. When that nurse asked me what was the matter, I told him in the terms he'd taught me: "Toxicodendron diversilobum!"
