    1. [NJ-Memories] CHILDHOOD DISEASES, ETC.
    2. James Thorne
    3. Hi All, As to childhood diseases, I was never diagnosed with any of them so I'm still waiting. I must have had them but no one ever knew. I haven't seen a doctor very often. The last time was 53 years ago so I am probably overdue, but have a phobia of medical things. I read all you write but have but have not responded much except to a couple of you privately, because life has been filled with Eileen's medical problems. Her hip replacement last May was successful and she is slowly but surely getting back toward normal. Three weeks ago she resumed a series of fainting spells, which had not happened for ten months. I took her to the emergency room and her pulse was only 20 to 30 and missing. A pacemaker was implanted and she seems to be stable now. The low pulse may have been the effects of medication she took. Also, she has poor circulation in one leg and vascular surgery may be next but probably not until next summer. We have already had 6 inches of snow here on Prince Edward Island, but it has melted and for the last three days the temperatures have been in the 60's and I've been to finish all of the outside fall work. As Robert Frost wrote in "After Apple Picking", I feel a contented drowsiness which "the woodchuck could say . . is like his long sleep". Did I tell any of you my old dog died (she was a terror who bit everyone including us) but we adopted another three year old German Shepherd named "Sam". This one is much more gentle and friendly, and a real joy to have around. If anyone wants to visit we are always here and have two guest rooms. (small but comfortable). Hope to visit the U.S. in late April, Monmouth County, NJ and perhaps KY, TN, and further south. Jim Rev. James M.
