First I wanted to thank everyone for their suggestions. In addition to looking for grants, I am making plans to speak to the various organizations themselves about fund raising for the preservation project. Along with funding will be the eventual problem of space to store the materials making them accessible to the public. And encouraing other residents to preserve their personal papers for the good to the Villages collective memory. The Village of Ridgewood is looking for a viable use for the old Pease Library which at this time is considered an endangered historic building. While it has been a long time since I set foot in the building itself. I can still remember the day my father took my brother and I to get our first library card at the Pease Library. I have written to the League of Women Voters who are hoping the Village will find a use for the building in keeping with the original donors wishes of it always being a library. I made the suggestion that it become the Villages own historical archives. Barbara O'Brien President LWV of Ridgewood emailed after reading my letter just about an hour before their monthly meeting. She made copies of my letter for everyone in attendance. She let me know that the use of the Pease building is unsettled, but it will probably be rented to a cultural organization. The Request for Proposal notice just went out to possible renters. Anyone on the list still living in Ridgewood, a displaced ex resident of the Village, with ancestors from Ridgewood, or any other interest in the Village who would like more information about this let me know and I'd be glad to let you know what else I hear.
