Ginnie, I know that was not an easy job. Those berry patches were hot hot hot. I never made bayberries but always had them in the house for Xmas. I know on the outer banks of Cape Cod they have something called Rose Hips and I think they make candles out of them. Wonder if they have them on our Outer Banks, perhaps Kittie would know.
