    3. Hi Everyone, Hope everyone had a wonderful New Year. I found a Sugar Cookie (Cakes) recipe in the Salem County Cook Book I thought I would share with everyone. For years my grandmother had an old sugar cookie recipe from her grandmother that was meant to be baked in a wood-stove. These are not really cookies but what they used to call sugar cakes. So she had it converted to an electric stove many years ago. I remember that it called for milk and adding a certain amount of vinegar to curdle the milk. So I cannot remember how much milk to Vinegar to use. So when I found the recipe it did not say how much vinegar to use with the milk. So in my Salem County Cookbook I found another sugar cookie (Cakes) recipe. In this recipe you have to mix the baking soda with your milk. I guess it is the same. I tried this recipe and it wonderful. I suggest that when you place a spoonful of the batter on the cookie sheet sprinkle sugar or even color sugar on top (depending on the occasion or holiday). If you have any questions let me know. If anyone knows how much vinegar to milk I need to use let me know. Love, Robin Here is the recipe: SUGAR COOKIES 1 cup milk 1 tsp. baking soda 4 cups unsifted flour 2 tsp. baking powder 2 tsp. vanilla œ tsp. salt 2 cups sugar 1 cup shortening 2 eggs Put soda into milk. Combine dry ingredients. Cream sugar and shortening, add the eggs, and continue to blend. Add dry ingredients, alternately with the milk mixture and vanilla. Drop by teaspoon close together on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 325 degrees for 15min. Yield 5 dozen By: Helen S. Nixon
