We have one on a spike on our back fence, and it keeps the squirrels out of the birdseed as long as I remember to take the empty one down and replace it with a fresh one. Doris, We have our feeders on a pole in the yard with a baffle below them. It is funny to see the squirrels try to figure out how to bypass the baffle. Of course it doesn't work if you have a tree close by because they can jump from the tree to the top of the feeder.
