    1. Re: [NJ-Memories] Re: Where We Are From
    2. OK guys, this is to let you know I am still alive[and kicking, too!] We were in Cape May all weekend.Don't drool too much when I say the ocean was still there as gorgeous as ever, the lighthouse is still shining, and the salt air is still refreshing. Our grandchildren wanted to go to the lighthouse,so we obliged. What a relaxing site! Between trips to Wilmington and Cape May to see our kids and grandchildren, and helping our daughter and son-in-law prepare their home for the upcoming birth of their first child[Nov. 19th],Tom and I have been busy as bees! I feel as if I am only a lurker here on our list. Can't let that happen![Here I am Lee] To answer a few recent topics: 1.Where I have been and am still from:Born in Audubon,NJ, 2.Collingswood NJ, 3.Wilmore,Ky.[Asbury College], 4.Collingswood,NJ 5.Port Deposit ,Md.[husband in US Navy], 6.Westfield,Ma.[first child born there] 7.Collingswood,NJ 8.Mullica Hill,NJ 9.Newport News,Va. 10.Mystic,Cn. 11.Collingswood,NJ [bought old family homestead from parent's and settled in to rear four kids there.Still here!] Now,did you notice any pattern? I love my hometown of Collingswood ,and always seem to bounce back to here. Topic #2.First kiss .A summer romance from Malaga Camp in Newfield,NJ.We were in 7th grade. He now is a teacher and guidance counselor in a local high school, and probably is counseling kids who do a whole lot more than kiss! Topic#3.Steel Pier.As I have said before,I think,my Grandfather had a client on the pier, and when PopPop went to work there,he often took me.I got countless autographs of the stars, well remember Miss[I think]Carver the Diving horse trainer, and of course Tony Grant's "Stars Of tomorrow shows.I loved the Diving Bell.I have pictures of me ,my brother and PopPop with our heads sticking out of all sorts of crazy wooden figure props .My favorite AC memory though is the small of Planter's store, the Mr.Peanut shaking my hand[golly, guess that is where Disney got his idea of Mickey and Minnie shaking kids hands in Disney World!],and feeding the pigeons on the boards.I also adored to watch the "Dancing Waters" fountains, and the big Sherwin William's paint neon sign on the boards.I loved the soda mat where you could buy drinks. The smell of Gaby suntan lotion, which I think was nothing more than baby oil and iodine!Remember those rubber beach shoes, and having to wear a robe over your bathing suit when you walked across the boards to the beach?Times sure have changed! Does anyone remember Mammy's the pancake house next to the Steel Pier?We also ate all the time at a little restaurant called "Kitty's".It was somewhere near the rooming house [Poole's]we stayed at on Delaware Avenue.I remember getting Jenny Lind cantaloupes for breakfast every day. Those were the melons that were scalloped in shape ,and had a knob on the top. They were small and yummy.Haven't seen[or thought of them] in a coon's age! Good to hear about all your memories ...keep it up.This list is great. Your South Jersey lass, Jerilyn
