I just found out that the english word "merry" meant "peaceful" not jolly and gay/happy like it does now. So Merry Christmas is a blessing of the Angels who declared "Peace on Earth and to Men of Goodwill!" This did not mean peace to everyone--it meant peace to those who wished to share in Christ's Peace. The Christ was now on earth, and it was up to humans to take advantage of it--or not. Also the carole "God rest ye merry, Gentlemen" is God rest ye merry---or may God bless you with peace. And then comes (comma) Gentlemen--it is a blessing, not a description of reveling holidayers! and this goes for any religion--everybody has the option of peace...
