He even made donut holes for us kids long before Dunkin' Donuts ever thought of them. My first job was in McCrory's Five & Ten Cent Store on Main St in Orange. I was 14 I think. With my own earned money I bought my Easter outfit that year. I was very proud of myself. Dot
Just posted this on another BB....thought you might enjoy the memories and trigger some of yours. I lurk most of the time but just had to jump in with a description of my first two jobs,,,,and a third job that my best friend enjoyed. First job at Sears roebuck was demonstrating bubbles in the toy department. It was Christmas season 1944....stood in front of a fan with a bubble pipe sprayng bubbles to amuse the kiddies awaiting their chance to speak to Santa. After the holidays (and these were after-school jobs...Thursdyas & Fridays 5to 9 pm, Saturdays, Noon till 9) I was transferred to the donut machine./ Anyone remember them..customers loved to watch the donuts swim around in the "fat" and be flipped over half way thru the process....all I did was scoop them out and sprinkle. Naturally, made innumerable friends!!! But, best friend really lucked out...the candy counter. It was the year M&M's came on the market. Naturally she ended up with more friends than I...the price was 15 cents per 1/4 lb. At that price, we walked away with a bit more!
Hi Everyone, I think my last email was a little confusing so please let me try again. I have created on Yahoo Groups a group dedicated to the recipes of NJ (especially Southern NJ). I have been a member of MEMORIES for a number of years and I remember all the different discussions we had on NJ cuisine and it's memories we remember. I would love to have you join my group at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/southnjrecipes/<http://groups.yahoo.com/group/southnjrecipes/>. If for some reason you cannot I would like to submit your recipe to our group. Also include any memories you may remember growing up. This is I believe a part of Genealogy but for some reason get over looked. My distant cousin was Mary Sanderlin who wrote the book "The Stories of Lower Penns Neck" always instilled in me when she was principal of Deepwater School the importance of the history of Southern NJ. Unfortunately she passed on a few years ago at almost 100 and knew who I was and I hadn't seen her in years. I dedicated this group to her and the memories she left with me. Love to All, Robin PS: Diesel where are you? Has Carl joined yet?

Thank you for your reasurring words -It could have been a lot worse -right now it is hard for me to get use to the new health care issues I have to follow - have to write down everything --such as meds and after blood work the amount changes - get use to one way and the next day it changes - Marie G
Marie, Glad all went well for you and like some of the others I too have had health issues these past few months. You are in my prayers and just to remind you Jersey people are a hardy, sturdy stock (LOL). Ellen
Marie, Sorry to hear of your problems. Glad they were not as bad as could have been. I am not on line much either, same health worries ,and I take Coumandin for prevention of strokes. I had congestive heart failure, not stroke and ended up in hospital too. Take the pill and prevent another stroke. Had to answer as you were a dear friend and we did write off line. Do try to keep the putter clean by sending the jokes. Unexpected arrival of dau. and husband yesterday, great surprise. We have 10 coming from all over the US on thur for our 60th anniversary. Hard to get together today as all are scattered. Remember the old days when we all lived close together. Those were the days. A prayer for you and glad you are home. Hi, The link I had on the previous email has doubled so when you click onto it it won't work. So copy and paste the 1st. part of the link and hit return. If it does not work please let me know and I will try to fix it. Love, Robin
Hi, I hope I do not get in trouble in doing this so here it goes. I have been for a long time working on on collecting Southern NJ regional recipes, I know sometimes we get on the topic of food and sometimes we share our family recipes. Well I have made a Yahoo Group dedicated to this. I want to extend an invitation to join this group. You do not have to have a recipe to join. I think this would be a good outlet for us in MEMORIES to share our NJ recipes and the family memories we have. The site is: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/southnjrecipes/<http://groups.yahoo.com/group/southnjrecipes/> Contact me if you have any questions. Love to all, Robin

Hi everyone, Where is everyone? It has been so quiet. What's up? Robin
I'm with you, Jerilyn. I start buying candy for Halloween as soon as they put it out. I don't know how many times I have to replenish the Halloween candy before the 31st! Marie, I now live in a rural area and the school regulates and sets up the car trick or treating. Parents, etc., attend with the children. Believe me, we are all concerned about child safety issues in this day and age. Oh, to be back in the 40's/50's when we roamed all over town and safety wasn't an issue. My concern back then was what I might do and my mother would hear about before I got home. LOL Pat

I have never been able to make a good meat ball. Diesel
I walked to the post office this morning - it stopped raining for awhile and when I was returning home I looked up at the sky and yes it had blue in it but only for awhile - no sun ----we are suppose to get sun tomorrow - I hope so for I have to walk to Eckerd's Drug store - they are giving flu shots -Marie G
Car trick or treating sounds nice but what are the safety issues - will the children be escorted by an adult - I hate to see a child abducted by a driver -----Marie G
