I got this from Mamie a while back, and it work's great for me. PASTRY, to make 2 9" pie crusts 2 1/2 c. unsifted all-purpose flour 2 T. granulated sugar 1 t. salt 1 1/2 c. shortening 1 large egg, well beaten. 2 T. cider vinegar and enough water to make 1/2 cup of liquid Cut shortening into flour, sugar, salt mixture. Add liquid slowly and blend till dough just comes together in a ball. Do not over mix or add ""too much liquid"" Roll into desired shape. I always use a cold rolling pin. Here's a good recipe for apple pie to go in it. (: Diesel Dutch Apple Pie One deep dish pie crust or Graham Cracker Pie Crust 5-1/2 cup's of sliced apples. Granny is the best. 1 tablespoon lemon juice 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 cup sugar 1/4 cup of brown sugar 3 tablespoons flour 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg Topping 3/4 cup flour 1/4 cup sugar 1/4 cup brown sugar 1/3 cup butter at room temp. Combine sliced apples. lemon juice, sugar, flour, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar. Mix well and spoon into pie crust Mix together "topping mixture" with a fork until crumbly, and sprinkle evenly over apples. Cover edges of pie with tin foil. Take off for the last 10 minutes. Bake 375 50 minutes. I'll also through in my favorite cake recipe, 7 Up Cake 2 sticks butter 1/2 cup shortening 3 cups sugar 3 cups flour 7oz of 7Up soda 5 egg's Cream butter, shortening, and sugar in bowl. Then add eggs one at a time. Then while mixing, add flour alternately with 7 Up. Bake 300 1-1/2 hours or until done. Grease, and flour Bundt Pan or use Pam Spray
Hi All, I wanted to ask Diesel if he would post the pie crust recipe he used for Thanksgiving. I've never made my own pie crust. I used store bought to make the apple pies for Thanksgiving, which were only ok. I would really love to learn to make my own. Wishing you all Happy Holidays Lori in Bayonne

Our family was not together this year on Thursday, but we were together Friday,Saturday ,and Sunday. The grandchildren were all here,as well as Jen and Chris,Doug and Jackie. It was Jen's 15th reunion from Collingswood High.We kept the girls while she and Chris partied. Nick, our 8 year old eldest grandchild, and his sister Kelly 6,helped Tom and me light the first Advent candle in church at the 11 o'clock service. That was quite special for us. Doug and his brother-in-law went to the Eagles game yesterday.[they even did them the favor of winning for a change!] Our Thanksgiving,Tom's and mine, was spent with dear friends who live in Deptford..We had shrimp cocktail, turkey, stuffing, shoepeg corn, green bean casserole,my sweetpotato casserole, cole slaw, cranberry sauce, apple and pumpkin pies and ice cream or whipped cream. Whew!We have spent all of next weeks calories. :-) The day after Thanksgiving five of us went to Wheaton Village for their annual craft sale. The vendors sell all the glass ,pottery, and jewelry they have created through the year. What a South Jersey treasure we have in Millville! I got a paperweight for $10.00.That was quite a buy!Two Christmas bottles were added to my collection, and some handblown vinegar and oil cruets for my girls for Christmas topped off my purchases..In the general store, they had Christmas globes for oil lamps for sale for $5.00.My lamps are now ready for Christmas, too. After eating a yummy lunch at the Paperwaiter Restaurant adjoining the village,we headed home tired, but quite happy. Today rounds off our weekend of memory building with the celebration of Tom's and my 41st.Anniversary.How blessed we are and very thankful. Jerilyn
Hi, So glad to hear that everyone had a great Thanksgiving. I am thankful for my NJ Memory friends, always there with a listening ear or to share a memory or bring a smile or laugh. We had turkey, bread stuffing, praline sweet potatoes, scalloped corn, shrimp merliton stuffing, merliton/shrimp soup, fruit salad, scalloped oysters(my husband and I eat those), rolls, sweet potato and pecan pies. And chicken stew which is like a fricassee(?). One of my husbands family things, along with dirty rice. Dirty rice is a mixture of rice, liver, gizzards with green onions and parsley. We don't generally eat like this. Half yankee and half cajun French. Blew my weight watchers to heck and back. Pat

I made a deep dish apple pie, using the recipe for the pie crust that Mamie gave me a while back, it turned out great. I also made a pumpkin pie, Zucchini bread, and a 7up cake. Then to top it off, I made the bread stuffing. Most of it went, so I guess it wasn't all that bad. I still have some of the cake left, I hid it in the micro wave. my sister beat me to the last piece of apple pie today. Diesel
We had a great day at my daughter Donna's house. She is the only one with a big enough room for all of us. All 6 of my kids and there families were there. Turkey was just ok because my son in law told Donna not to put water in the bottom of the pan for the turkey or cover it with foil (which I had told her the night before) because it didn't say that on the instruction sheet that came with the turkey. Soooooooo needless to say turkey was good but a little bit dry. I decided to turn into Betty Crocker and made 2 pumpkin pies and even attempted apple pie. Both turned out excellent if I must say so myself LOLOL. ellen
Jerilyn, You said it so well and I ditto that. Ellen One thing for which I am thankful today is the precious people whom I have met on this list. They truly have become friends. What a privilege to have the gift of your friendship. Jerilyn
Hi, We had a South Jersey Thanksgiving. It was interesting. Duck, my grandmom's stuffing, Succotash (foardhook Limas and white shoe peg corn), carrots and chunky cranberry relish. Hope everyone had a good time today. Don't know where the feet came from. But it is flurrying all day today. We never even got the 1 to 2 inches. So happy for that. I don't like being on a snowy NY mountain with Florida tires on the car even tho they are new. LOL Hope everybody enjoyed. We did. Dot
