    3. I have had an on-going battle with my husband Lee to try potted meat. (I don't care if he hates it but I want him to TRY it!) If anyone does not know what it is, it is like devilled ham spread--only a spicy bologna flavor. He thinks it is gross and I think of it as a nostalgic piece of childhood growing up in south Jersey. (Incidentally I mix one can of potted meat with one can of devilled ham and a spoon full of southwestern spicy sweet mustard and a dollop of Miracle Whip then chill to get the right consistency.) It might have been gross way back when but today it is made with chicken and beef--even if it is machined--and it has way less preservatives in it than bologna or other lunch meats. Anyway, I wrote this poem for him this morning--enjoy!: I Will Not Eat Potted Meat I will not eat potted meat not on bread, white or wheat not on toast or crispy crackers not for lunch or tea-time snackers I will not eat potted meat! I will not eat potted meat not Armour brand or Treet not Hormel or even Libbys not in uniform or skivvies! I will not eat potted meat! I will not eat potted meat not with added things or neat not with mayonnaise or mustard not with horseradish or custard I will not eat potted meat! What's this? Nothing in my fridge or cupboard I've less to eat than Mother Hubbard! No peanut-butter or jelly sweet But one slice of bread and POTTED MEAT! I spread it thickly on the crust I steeled myself to taste I must I closed my eyes and held my breath I took a bite--oh come quick death! But wait! the taste was not so bad T'was rather good I might add Like spicy bologna I used to eat I can't believe its potted meat! I will eat potted meat on sandwiches for meal or treat on crackers for party snacks now in my cupboard I keep stacks I will eat potted meat! 2. Pat, It is such a beautiful part of NJ. My niece is in Flanders and she took me by a development of homes that were just outstanding. The price started at $2-3 million. I spent a lot of my growing up in Dover. My relatives were there and I took any chance I could to get out of Newark and spend some time away from the noise and the busyness. My other aunt lived in Belford down near Keanesburg and that's another fond memory I have. Ellen You were in my neck of the woods. Budd Lake and Flanders. I am from down in the valley (Hackettstown). We were in NJ the middle of July for a week. My niece got married up in Mt Arlington. We had a great time and what a band. They gave out props(?) to the dancers, such as hats, blown up instruments and feet, etc. Village People songs they gave out Indian, Fireman, Policeman, etc. Talk about fun. First time we had seen that and I don't think it has hit down here yet. I didn't get clams or hot sausage and peppers, but I did get pizza and a sub. Can't get good pizza and subs or hoagies in the south. Brought back Taylor Pork Roll and kielbasa. The store must have switched kielbasa makers as it wasn't the greatest this time. Never enough time when we are there. It was sweltering and I get enough of that in La. Pat

    2. Well, Marie, It looks like you had a busy summer this year. No wonder it went by so quick. I always liked the Pennington area. Actually I like all the NJ area with very few exceptions. Glad the dog won some ribbons. Makes it all worth while. Will keep you in my prayers. Hope things improve soon. Enjoy your scrapbooking. 2. Hi Ellen, I envy you that you can get to NJ as often as you do. Since I moved to Florida it is a major trip for me now but I enjoy every minute of the time I am there. I enjoyed every minute of it. Graduation party in Budd Lake, cookouts in Linden and Flanders. Spent a couple of days in Toms River and got to go and walk the boardwalk in Seaside. The beach was so beautiful and clean and the boardwalk really nice. I also love clams on the half shell and sausage and peppers. I had a horrible experience many years back with food poisoning from sausage and peppers I had eaten in Pt Pleasant. Our first day down there on our vacation and both my mother and I sick as dogs. But didn't spoil my taste for them (I don't get them in Pt Pl). Happy Labor Day All

And for hot dogs it's Rutt's Hut unless you want the Italian style then it's Jimmy Buff's. Forgot to tell everyone we got to Rutt's Hut too while we were up there. I think the chairs are the same ones they had 50 years ago but that's okay as long as they don't change the dogs. LOL Dot
