    2. OK guys, this is to let you know I am still alive[and kicking, too!] We were in Cape May all weekend.Don't drool too much when I say the ocean was still there as gorgeous as ever, the lighthouse is still shining, and the salt air is still refreshing. Our grandchildren wanted to go to the lighthouse,so we obliged. What a relaxing site! Between trips to Wilmington and Cape May to see our kids and grandchildren, and helping our daughter and son-in-law prepare their home for the upcoming birth of their first child[Nov. 19th],Tom and I have been busy as bees! I feel as if I am only a lurker here on our list. Can't let that happen![Here I am Lee] To answer a few recent topics: 1.Where I have been and am still from:Born in Audubon,NJ, 2.Collingswood NJ, 3.Wilmore,Ky.[Asbury College], 4.Collingswood,NJ 5.Port Deposit ,Md.[husband in US Navy], 6.Westfield,Ma.[first child born there] 7.Collingswood,NJ 8.Mullica Hill,NJ 9.Newport News,Va. 10.Mystic,Cn. 11.Collingswood,NJ [bought old family homestead from parent's and settled in to rear four kids there.Still here!] Now,did you notice any pattern? I love my hometown of Collingswood ,and always seem to bounce back to here. Topic #2.First kiss .A summer romance from Malaga Camp in Newfield,NJ.We were in 7th grade. He now is a teacher and guidance counselor in a local high school, and probably is counseling kids who do a whole lot more than kiss! Topic#3.Steel Pier.As I have said before,I think,my Grandfather had a client on the pier, and when PopPop went to work there,he often took me.I got countless autographs of the stars, well remember Miss[I think]Carver the Diving horse trainer, and of course Tony Grant's "Stars Of tomorrow shows.I loved the Diving Bell.I have pictures of me ,my brother and PopPop with our heads sticking out of all sorts of crazy wooden figure props .My favorite AC memory though is the small of Planter's store, the Mr.Peanut shaking my hand[golly, guess that is where Disney got his idea of Mickey and Minnie shaking kids hands in Disney World!],and feeding the pigeons on the boards.I also adored to watch the "Dancing Waters" fountains, and the big Sherwin William's paint neon sign on the boards.I loved the soda mat where you could buy drinks. The smell of Gaby suntan lotion, which I think was nothing more than baby oil and iodine!Remember those rubber beach shoes, and having to wear a robe over your bathing suit when you walked across the boards to the beach?Times sure have changed! Does anyone remember Mammy's the pancake house next to the Steel Pier?We also ate all the time at a little restaurant called "Kitty's".It was somewhere near the rooming house [Poole's]we stayed at on Delaware Avenue.I remember getting Jenny Lind cantaloupes for breakfast every day. Those were the melons that were scalloped in shape ,and had a knob on the top. They were small and yummy.Haven't seen[or thought of them] in a coon's age! Good to hear about all your memories ...keep it up.This list is great. Your South Jersey lass, Jerilyn

    1. [NJ-Memories] Checking In
    2. Hi All, Well, finally up and running again. Oh, how nice having a computer that doesn't lock up every time you write something. I'm now over 400 messages behind. Glad I don't have to answer all of them. If I owe you an answer, please don't think I forgot you. The past few months have been hectic for me. Besides now feeling all that well, my computer down, and working four days a week, it hasn't left me much time for Memories, or friends. Glad to see things on here are picking up, love reading all your experiences. Diesel

Last stop, > hopefully. I'm tired of packing and unpacking!!! > > When we moved here, I thought that it was going to be the final move of our lives. But we're already starting to think about retiring somewhere else. The cost of living here is going up dramatically; and with the exploding population in the area, Colorado Springs is going to be outstripping its water supply in about five years even if the current drought corrects itself next year. Already we're competing heavily for other Front Range cities for what precipitation falls on the Western Slope, and communities in the Rockies are digging in their heels about letting us put in more reservoirs. I find xeriscaping unpleasant to look at; it makes me feel like I'm living in a desert all year 'round. Don't ask me where we'll end up. We both liked the Bend, OR, area earlier this year; but their cost of living is 10% higher than ours is here. I also liked the look of the Great Lakes area when I visited it last spring, but Bill hasn't seen it yet, and there's always the problem of the humid summers. That was one part of NJ that I was glad to get away from. There were a couple, but we all knew who they were and busted their balloons pretty quickly. The guys I knew from about age 20 on were all too mature to pull that little stunt, with one notable exception. And I'm not sure what his motivation was; I suspect that it was insecurity about his ability to hang onto a girl, not attempts to impress his buddies. Personally, I think that men are pretty wonderful creatures, despite the bad press they're getting from feminist groups. 2. This list is interesting - why do you say you are trying to make it interesting -at times there is a lull but it doesn't stay that way - this is what life is about - we have highs and we have lows ------------ Yesterday was not interesting to me for I came down with a stomach virus - Went to my Parish musical show Saturday nite - the gym serves as an auditiorium and believe me it was hot there - no air conditioning ----Two people passed out and an ambulance was called for one The Show was Mame and they killed it - a friend was in it and she had the small part of Pengeen which was the last scene - she has a beautiful voice - When the first show The Music Man was put on about 3 yrs past it was terrific - the others shows in between I did not see for I was on trips at the time - To get back to this list - It is interesting if it wasn't I would not be here -----------Marie G

    1. [NJ-Memories] Song
    2. HI, I knew NJ Memories would come through! I relayed the information to my husband who was quite impressed! He then said to ask you all who sang "I'm gonna sit right down and write myself a letter". Said his dad used to sing it all the time. I remember the words but not the singer! Seems like this is becoming my life's story!! I can "hear" it, a young voice.
