    1. [NJ-Memories] Chicken Pot Pie
    2. Robin M. Stinson
    3. Greetings Everyone, Got a message from Jerilyn today and she said how much she liked Chicken and Dumplings. I do too. It reminds me of my great grandmother's (Sarah Mitchell Keen of Salem County, NJ) Chicken Pot Pie. She would always serve Fordhook Lima's and Silver Queen Corn on the side. I guess people call that succotash (sorry for the spelling). Back then when we went down the street to the Griscom's farm and their produce stand they always had Fordhook Lima's. Now aday's they are hard to find except frozen in the grocery store. Boy are they expensive. They seemed to be more popular in New Jersey (or at least my part of NJ) Than they are here in the South. I found a Chicken and Dumplings recipe in the "Salem County Cookbook---1963" I thought I would share it with everyone. This is dedicated to Jerilyn . ENJOY-----------Everyone else too. Chicken Pot Pie 3-4 lbs. of chicken salt and pepper onions 4 cups all purpose flour 1 tsp. salt 2/3 cup of shortening Cut chicken into serving pieces and cook in large quantity of water (5-6 qts. Water) seasoned with onions and ample salt and pepper, until done. Remove from broth and keep warm till ready to serve. Mix together flour, salt and shortening . Add enough water to make a soft dough, but not sticky. Roll thin. Flour well. Cut in 2" squares. Drop into well seasoned boiling chicken broth. Cook, covered, 20 min. or until done. Serves 8 - 10. 3. Hi All, > We still dye eggs in our family. With the grandchildren who went through a stage of "That's for babies" But they did it any how, now that they are 22, 24, and 26 years old they come in and get out all the dyig things and we all have a lot of fun talking and catching up on each others lives. The oldest lives in Montclare, N. J. we don't see her that often but the weekend of Easter she is here to dye eggs. None of them want basket any more and I miss putting them togeather. Betty

    2. Tonight I got egged -- but good! The occasion was my 62nd birthday, and the place was our Awana club at church. The girls carried out a Latin American custom of breaking eggshells filled with confetti over my head, and then they gave me a foot-high birthday card, a balloon and a humongous lollipop (out West they call them "suckers"). Then we all ate chocolate brownie cookies in my honor, since the club director is a good friend of mine and knows what a chocoholic I am. What fun! I LOOKED FOR HIM FOR OVER A > YEAR,,FINALLY FOUND HIM AND GOT TO TALK TO HIM LATE IN JUNE What a wonderful story! Reminds me of another that we know of. A young girl had a baby in her teens and gave it up for adoption. She got her life turned around and later became a missionary to South America, married and had two lovely daughters. One of those daughters died of leukemia several years ago. It was right after the death of her daughter that either her first child located her or she located the child (I don't remember which). But this couple, who had just lost one daughter, found another. It was a real time of rejoicing on both sides. We knew of the story because the other surviving daughter married the son of some friends of ours in California, and that couple are now missionaries in Papua New Guinea. God has this wonderful habit of turning our sins and mistakes around and bringing good out of them! Kittie, were you still doing the Halloween bit when Fred Sayles (Uncle Fred of "Junior Frolics") was handing out his sponsor's products for Halloween? The Sayleses lived on Satterthwaite Avenue, as I recall; I do remember that it was in the block west of Washington Avenue and on the south side of the street. At least one year he was handing out ice cream, and there were kids from all over sitting on the curb in front of his house and eating it.
