Hi All, As to childhood diseases, I was never diagnosed with any of them so I'm still waiting. I must have had them but no one ever knew. I haven't seen a doctor very often. The last time was 53 years ago so I am probably overdue, but have a phobia of medical things. I read all you write but have but have not responded much except to a couple of you privately, because life has been filled with Eileen's medical problems. Her hip replacement last May was successful and she is slowly but surely getting back toward normal. Three weeks ago she resumed a series of fainting spells, which had not happened for ten months. I took her to the emergency room and her pulse was only 20 to 30 and missing. A pacemaker was implanted and she seems to be stable now. The low pulse may have been the effects of medication she took. Also, she has poor circulation in one leg and vascular surgery may be next but probably not until next summer. We have already had 6 inches of snow here on Prince Edward Island, but it has melted and for the last three days the temperatures have been in the 60's and I've been to finish all of the outside fall work. As Robert Frost wrote in "After Apple Picking", I feel a contented drowsiness which "the woodchuck could say . . is like his long sleep". Did I tell any of you my old dog died (she was a terror who bit everyone including us) but we adopted another three year old German Shepherd named "Sam". This one is much more gentle and friendly, and a real joy to have around. If anyone wants to visit we are always here and have two guest rooms. (small but comfortable). Hope to visit the U.S. in late April, Monmouth County, NJ and perhaps KY, TN, and further south. Jim Rev. James M. Jerilyn, I always listen to 101.5 on the radio when I'm driving in Jersey. The other day they were talking about all the teachers going to Atlantic City. I guess if they attend some of the thing's going on at the convention, they get some kind of credit's. They were saying, most go to the casino, and have a good time, and never show up at the convention. If I was a teacher, I might also be tempted? Diesel

I can't jump rope, never could, and I'm to old to start now, but I can still turn the rope, I had good teachers. My sisters used to tie me to the telegraph pole, and make me turn the rope for them. I thought I would at least teach the granddaughters to jump rope. I still remember some of the song's, and I have plenty of rope laying around. I have yet to see any of them jump rope. This place looks like Diesel Land. We have lot's of toy's for them when they come over. Two swing sets, two motorized cars, and a bunch of other toy's out back of the house, and what do they do, clime tree's, and get covered with sap. Maybe I can make lady's out of them yet. Diesel

He was the Becton of Becton-Dickinson. I only remember Mrs. Becton who was an invalid with round the clock nurses. Not sure if Mr. Becton was still alive. When she died that property was given to the University by their son who was on the University Board at the time. The mansion was turned into classrooms and the carriage house was turned into a lecture hall. I actually have 32 credits from FDU. Peter and I got married right after his graduation from Notre Dame. This was right after the Viet Nam police action had begun and he would have lost his student deferment and he was set to go to graduate school. I had a year to go at Georgian Court but married women weren't allowed at most women's colleges in those days so while I went to FDU for a year, I still got my diploma from Georgian Court. Judy
If we all took jump rope lessons from Diesel, our doctors would love us! When are you starting ,Diesel? I will bring my Jump Rope Rhymn book. Cold Spring Village in Cape May County on Children's Day held a seminar for kids ,and taught them how to weave their own rope.We took our little 4 year old grandson Nick, and he made one.Perhaps he could teach us how to do it! :-) Jerilyn
Hey everyone, thanks for praying for my husband and me.Tom's Whooping Cough test and x-ray came back negative. We now have the clearance to go see our new grandbaby when he/she is born in Wilmington. The doctor said just wear masks. Tom is afraid the baby will think he was born into the Lone Ranger's family?His/her first words are libel to be ,"Who is that masked man,Mommy?". :-) Jerilyn
Marie and all, When were you in Williamsburg? My friends were just there last week. They are Jersey teachers, and were off for the Teacher's Convention.I wonder how many of our state's teachers ever go to Atlantic City for the convention? My grandmother always went every year, and would take me .I used to think it was so cool to get all those free things at the booths in Convention Hall. I could hardly wait for it to come around in november every year!As a little girl,it seemed to me there were thousands and thousands of teachers there. Are any of you on the list NJ teachers? Jerilyn
Jerilyn, I went to the convention in AC twice when I was in college (pre casinos :-) ). I was a student member of the NJEA and we stayed in a dumpy hotel. It was the Traymore. We spent a morning at the convention and the rest of the 2 days we spent walking the boardwalk, buying James Salt Water Taffy, meeting old friends and making new ones. It was party time for us! I know my mother told me she had gone once when she first started teaching. My aunt told me she never attended as she didn't like the shore in the winter. Hi Lee, Glad to see you up and running. Raining here for 2 days now. Miserable but at least we don't have any of those tornadoes that hit the midwest. Save those instructions for fixing your unit. You may need it again. Sure could use a snowball about now. Bought a sugar free cheese cake at the farmer's market and it wasn't that bad. My father told me I had encephalitis at age 2, 3-day measles about 4.I remember the whooping cough at that age - so sick. Had to wait until 3 years ago to get the chicken pox. Had a fever of unknown origin for 4 days when I was 15, but my heart is in great shape..... -----Original Message----- From: franor [mailto:franor@atmc.net] Sent: Tuesday, November 12, 2002 9:18 AM To: NJ-MEMORIES-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NJ-Memories] Ready- Or -Not -Here -I- Come -,and ChildhoodDiseases Sure you can remember. I had and read all the Cherry Ames, many times, and Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys. When I left for nursing school I donated them all to thel local library. I cannot believe they are coming out again with the Nancy Drew books. -----Original Message----- From: Up2Nutrix@aol.com [mailto:Up2Nutrix@aol.com] Sent: Monday, November 11, 2002 10:58 PM To: NJ-MEMORIES-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NJ-Memories] Re: Ready- Or -Not -Here -I- Come -,and Childhood Diseases In a message dated 11/11/2002 1:07:11 AM Mountain Standard Time, NJ-MEMORIES-D-request@rootsweb.com writes: > I did get a nifty pair of PJ's from my > grandparents, and about 6 new Nancy Drew and Cherry Ames books. > OK . . . how many of you "girls" read the Cherry Ames books? I loved them -- and would you believe, my daughter still has them. I read them all over again just before I started nursing school, back in 1988. Nursing sure has changed from the 1940s, when those books were written! For instance, back then only the sickest patients got IVs, and the docs started them. Now just about everybody gets an IV, and the nurses start almost all of them.
