    3. Judy, The University of Illinois site is a very good general rule of thumb. However, there are two points I wish to clarify. The Poinsettia is a member of the Euphorbia family which is characterized by a sticky milky sap, this has caused some concern as being a toxic fluid. While I am no expert on the toxicity of the Poinsettia, I can tell you that is does cause an allergic reaction in some individuals, me being one. So I would advise if you are unsure of your allergic potential, please be cautious when cutting back your Poinsettia. Do not get the sap near your eyes or your mouth. When you cut your plant back, cut 1/4 inch above an outward facing bud. Buds are in the axils of the leaves so by now most florist grown poinsettias have lost their lower leaves, you will have to look for where the old leaves were on the stem. One other thing, most modern cultivars are treated with growth regulators to increase stem thickness and reduce stem elongation, thus increasing the size of the bracts. All of this is done under very controlled conditions which have been developed for many years in the industry, it is a challenge to reflower a Poinsettia and well worth the experience. Growers start with cuttings so most plants you purchase are only one year old, unless the grower is catering to the large plant market. Go through the challenge and you will understand how difficult it is for a grower to bring in a seasonal crop on time and all uniform. 2. Ellen - glad that oven fire didn't go into something big - I spent Christmas Eve at my son's - he made a roast eye round of beef, shrimps, spinach au gratin, roasted cherry tomatoes, rosted long sliced potatoes - bread pudding made from croissants with whipped cream --Christmas day at my daughter Gerri's house - on Christmas eve she makes the 7 Seas Fish soup - the children don't care for the Fish soup so she made a pot of Slovak soup - - I usually go there for Christmas eve but the past year and this year I go to my son's where my other daughter visits - Christmas day at Geri's we had roast turkey, roast crown of pork - mashed potatoes, broccoli - corn and limas, cranberry sauce - cakes and cookies -I tried a Heinekin beer but it was so bitter to taste - I am a Coors beer lover - I received som nice gifts = Last nite my daughter Betsy called me about 10 - when she arrived home the house was flooded - the washing machine hose broke -her landlady who is also her friend went out to fire house to get those large vacuums - luckily Donna is a member and firefighter of the fire house - This happened to me about 15 yrs ago - From that day on I shut my washing machine faucets off after each use - Well enough rambling - have a nice day -----Marie G

We got a good foot here in Effort. Were really snowed in. The power & cable has been going off, and on all day. We can't get out the front door. My wife is going to have to go up the basement steps tomorrow, and shovel us out. My brother-in-law has the drive way open already, it's one-eighth of a mile long, and if we get a lot of wind tonight, it will be closed again in the morning. I don't know what the roads are like. Oh Florida is looking so good right now. Diesel

    3. Hi Guys, I hope you all had a Merry Christmas. And have a Happy and Healthy New Year. I am sending this from my daughter's computer. We came down to NJ (Kenilworth) last night and stayed the night. Will stay tonight also. So far 4 inches of snow here. But it is supposed to stop. Glad I'm not up in the Poconos now. This storm is the reason we are staying over. We planned it that way. My son was not able to come down today as is his usual custom. Robin, praying for your son. I must say I am impressed with the wonderful job they do in PA in keeping the roads clear. My oldest son Matthew is heading for a youth conference at a place called Spruce Lake, PA. I hope he gets there OK. I think this place is in the Pocono's. I heard they got almost 1 foot of snow. Please pray for his safety and the other kids going. I have never let him go that far away from me before. Merry Christmas again to everyone on MEMORIES. Love, Robin

    1. [NJ-Memories] Happy Holidays
    2. Merry Christmas to all, Hope you all have a wonderful day and Santa brings you lots of goodies. I've been up since 4:30am watching the snow fall. It was only about 3 inches then but now it's turned to icy snow and I can hear it hitting the windows. Not supposed to stop till around midnight tonite. Last night was our usual family dinner, my daughter and fiance' were here as well as my two sons. Everyone else had work. It was very nice, we have seafood every xmas eve so the menu was lobster, haddock, snow crab legs, scallops and shrimp. I love seafood so it was very enjoyable for me. Had one small problem, my oven caught fire as I was starting to cook and it just wouldn't go out......nothing big but a small sizzler that just made it way around the heat coil. I think it may have neeed a cleaning but now the oven is shot so I'm off to find Santa to ask him for a new stove next week LOL. Supposed to go over my daughters house today so 4 of my kids are meeting here and we're driving up in our van, we figure the heavier the better, also taking some blankets and pillows cause I think we may end up stranded.........should be fun. Take care and be safe all..........................Ellen

    2. Hi All, We've lost a few old friends on this list over the years, but gained some new ones. It's hard to believe this list started over four years ago. I remember Nancy, Rose674 saying that she had 667 messages from Memories in her mail box back in January of 1999. I'm glad it's not that busy anymore, I could never find the time to read them all. Here's wishing that all of you stay on the Memories List this coming year, and many years to come, and wishing all of you, a Merry Christmas, and a Happy & Healthy New Year. Love Diesel.
