Carolyn, I am from northwest Jersey in Warren County. Grew up in Hackettstown, went to S.C., N.C. and ended up in Louisiana right outside of New Orleans. Welcome to the list and take your time. We all had to start out on the computer and lists at some stage. Pat
Alright, I give, what is Hoppin John, although, somewhere this may lurk in my memory. Pat
Robin,' We always ate pork and saurkraut on New Year's Day. Supposed to bring good luck and good health. My mom used to say if you ate chicken(fowl) on New Year's Day you would scratch (for a living?) all year. Down here it is pork and blackeyed peas for health and wealth. We will be having porkroast with saurkraut. May throw in some blackeyed peas for my husband. Pat
Ellen,' Down here people plant them right in the ground and they grow into big, hearty bushes. Pat

Carl and Everyone, I have been helping Carolyn in trying to subscribe. I think she wants each individual messages not digest. So I left her an email on how to do that. Hopefully that will work for her. Hi, Everyone please let me know if this message comes back garbled or normal. Thanks, Robin
Hi I have never heard sausage gave someone good luck. Does anyone have any other things like that. Robin
Robin - why don't you make Spaghetti with sausage - that way you will have Pork for New Year's Day which is suppose to bring good luck----------Marie G
So many mornings it was freezing in the Atlantic City area. We had the oil heat grate in the hallway. It was so toasty dressing over that. When the power went out, Mom would light the gas stove and we would huddle wrapped in blankets in the kitchen. Fortunately, there were only 3 of us - it was a very tiny kitchen. Now, everything is electric. When we get a hurricaine and the power goes out - at least it is warm. Candles are great when you don't have a generator. Hope all had a merry christmas. I enjoyed my time off - rested, visited, etc. Have a very Happy New Year. -----Original Message----- From: Up2Nutrix@aol.com [mailto:Up2Nutrix@aol.com] Sent: Saturday, December 21, 2002 11:23 PM To: NJ-MEMORIES-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NJ-Memories] Re: FLoor Vents In a message dated 12/21/2002 9:02:00 AM Mountain Standard Time, NJ-MEMORIES-D-request@rootsweb.com writes: > I can remember getting up in the morning and dressing over the floor vent > where it was warm. Hi everyone, The Lord has been so good. My oldest son just returned from Spruce Lake, PA. He said he had a blast and cannot wait to go back in the spring. Our church meeting was so kind and gracious to pay his way their and the lady who drove him their. My son said the official reading was 17 inches of snow. The roads up their were really good. About a mile or so before they got to Spruce Lake the roads were not so good. Let me know what your plans are for New Years. Anyone planning to cook something special? My husband has to work Mon-Wed and is off Thurs. Everyone wants Spaghetti and Meatballs with homemade herb rolls. I guess I will make cookies or some sort of desert. Talk Later on, Love, Robin
