Thought you might all enjoy this quick version of a winner! 1 can of New England Clam Chowder 1 can of asparagus tips including liquid 1/2 cup of half & half or milk - more or less according to your choice dash of Louisiana hot sauce or paprika. This recipe was a winner in a NJ chowder contest back in the mid-70's half somewhere in South Jersey. Ruth
Jim, Glad your son is coming home again before employment, our prayers go with him. Congrats on being able to put up all that spinach. I saw on TV that your Island got a lot of snow, did that bother your garden?, or just make a nice blanket there.? Have not heard from you since Xmas when Matt was coming home. I think we still miss our Lee and all have kinda given up. Lets hear more from you. Pat, I had a 37 Chevy, at least it had a top on it. My favorite cars were our Red 69 Dukes of Hazzard car. I could beat everyone with a take off at the lights. Had a 39 Ford Victoria, and my love car that Frank sold and I have never forgiven him was my Thunderbird. Now we have an old Antique Van and a Dodge van with 188,000 miles on it. Its a fight over van or car. I would like a car. The beat goes on. lol. Pat and Diesel, You youngsters, but at least you remember the great rivers to swim in. Our Raritan was the best, clear and clean. We also had Lake Solitude. I remember swimming in the river at Spruce run before they made it into a resesivour?. Faye do you remember that when you were on the farm there? Are you telling me Pat that Bertrand's no longer exists? Butlers too? Remember the good skating there and in Broadway? As for reunions not many of my age left for one. Diesel aka T., Are you still going to get to Trenton? I am trying to get my genealogy finished before my eyes goes completely. Since Jerilyn has lost so much I am going to make copies of everything I have from now on. Let me know I only have a few things for you to look up. Thank you for the offer, you have been missed on here. Where's the latest picture? Ginnie, I know that was not an easy job. Those berry patches were hot hot hot. I never made bayberries but always had them in the house for Xmas. I know on the outer banks of Cape Cod they have something called Rose Hips and I think they make candles out of them. Wonder if they have them on our Outer Banks, perhaps Kittie would know. We worked about 4-6 hours a day, depending on how hot is was. We were lucky to make 2 dollars a day. But........we sure had fun! Anybody evr pick bayberries and make candles out of them? That's another thing we used to do as kids. Ginnie
Robin I have sent you several things. So sorry about your accident. Memories is truly back and I will answer all soon. Most important my good friend Jerilyn called this morning, and her putter has crashed. She has lost everything. Good thing she can receive emails, but can't send. I missed her daily messages, but thought they were in the mountains yet. At home life has not been easy either. Her son-in-law Chris is in the hospital again. Sent home hoping infections would go away with meds. Instead in the hospital again receiving major surgery cutting open and removing the infections, perhaps would have been better before. Talking about sending him home tubes and all. Lets pray for him and his lovely family. This is truly hard on them with Jen working and taking the baby to day care. Our Jerilyn has had a very rough 3 months, but her faith as always sees her through. Long putter friendship with this most loving lady, who everyday and everyway makes me go on sometimes. She is our spirit on Memories. If we have been lax on here sometimes, we still are all friends, and welcome all new ones. Love you Jerilyn. Normie
Norma - Back in the late 50's and early 60's my husband used to fish at a lake in Whiting,NJ - to keep the kids occupied we picked blueberries one day - that was a discovery and learning experience for me - didn't know too much about blueberries at that time - I rarely eat them but the other week my son made a 4th of July cake and had blue berries on it - Red strawberries and White cream frosting - it was a pineapple pound cake - I forgot to ask him if it was for the 50 th state in the Union -LOL --------Marie G
Robin - sorry you are having so much trouble - hope it will soon work out in your favor -will be praying for you and your family ---------MarieG
Hi Everyone, Did anyone get my 2 emails about my accident? I am hardly getting anyones emails/ What is going on? Let me know. I can try to resend it. Love, Robin Hi Robin, I got them, just didn't have the time to answer. I'm still reading all my mail for the time I've been in Maryland. I Just got home yesterday. I'm really sorry to hear about what happened, and glad no one got hurt. Diesel

Diesel and Norma, We have really become spoiled over the years. How did we survive our younger years without air cond. in house and cars? LOL Now we move from one air cond place to another. When younger, I guess, we headed for the nearest river or swimming place and forgot the heat. Today the pools are as warm as a bathtub. Give me a good, cold, flowing river anyday. We forgot all about the heat. Opened our car windows and away we went. Just like everyone else. Pat
Hi Jim, Glad to see you back on here. Can't believe it can be that cold where you are and as hot as it is down here. This is our hottest week of the summer, so far. Temp supposed to be high tomorrow with a heat index around 110. My husband planted a garden and first I called it the Magic Garden, then the bountiful harvest. I have frozen quite a bit and we have given away loads. Then the rain came and I thought we would need an ark. Between the rain and bugs it has pretty much ruined the garden. Cucumbers, bell peppers and okra still exist and doing fairly well. Still a few cantelope and watermelons left. Can't wait to see what the winter garden will produce. Glad to hear that your son and friends will be able to spend time with you and Eileen, before shipping out. I will pray for them and a safe return from Iraq. How is Eileen doing? Hope all is well with both of you. Pat
Norma, My first car was a 1950/51 Mercury. It was like a great big gray tank and would bounce off of anything. LOL Heater was shot, but heat in a car makes me feel ill. It used more transmission fluid than it did gas. It got us over hill and dale, so we were happy. Second car was a 1955 red/white Ford Fairlane. I loved that car and in much better condition. Pat
Norma, Budd Lake is the first lake I can remember swimming in. Bertrand's Island was an all time favorite. Can't believe that it is no longer there. Housing developments is all we here about these days. Butler's Park was where they held the Nunn/Beatty reunions when I was young. We were lucky to grow up when we did. Pat
Ginnie used to do a lot of picking when first married. All went into canning jars. I especially remember going to Cole Alpaugh's in Cokesbury to pick up drops for Apple Sauce. Canned his peaches, pears and plums. I think $1.00 a basket. Marie might remember the Trenton Market, many the times we went there for things to can in the 60's. Ginnie you did good for 25c, I only made 37c when I went to work. Hi Ruth, Can you believe we have Blueberries out back here in NC. I am past the age of pickin, but enjoy thinking about the past when I did. A shame to let things go when they could be eaten. However I know how it would be if someone got hurt. I remember onthe Eastern shore where we lived we could go over the fields after the green picker had left, and pick. A lot the picker missed. In the fall same thing with the Sweet taters (ok Diesel) now I am not sure one can do that I've been gone for 8 yrs. I am so pleased to hear about Asbury Park upgrading. I took my children there in the 50's and such a pretty place. Hi - About 5 minutes away there is an old blueberry farm that has not been in operation for over 6 or 7 years - believe owner is holding out for a development as it is just about 10 minutes from the ocean and Asbury Park.....It's such a shame to see all those berries going to waste but do know that some "locals" do climb the fence and pick!. By the way, just in case some listers haven't kept up with the news....Asbury Park is finally beginning to turn around....lots of new upscale restaurants and the beachfront is undergoing total redevelopment. Also many of the great old homes are being restored by members of the gay community moving down from Manhattan. I had a Dodge Ram truck hit my gas tank, snaped off my wheel and messed up my bumper and peeled a lot of my metal on my car in that area. It was a hit and run. This guy even came back to the scene of the crime and on his 2 nd. time the police man was their to arrest him. He had his kids in this truck and his wife---I guess, Uem in my rear view mirror and then I looked again and he was gone. When they finally got him the Police went to his home and the kids and his wife said he hit me. To this day the guy denies it . He ran a stop sign and he looked loke he was going right at the sign and instead he suddenly made a sharp turn to the left I couldn't get over any further I also heard him put on the gas then he got me. Thank God I am OK. It was almost like I was in a bubble of protection. Either way I am taking the check to put down for a car for my son. He also has money of his own. Our credit is not all that great but God will provide a car. Also after the accident my friend I use to go to church with is giving me her Mini-Van on Aug 8th. Every thing has been fixed in the van so it will be like a new one. It is 1995 Dodge Caravan.. I am now waiting for the adjuseter to look at my car. I am going to see a Chiropractor this week.
