    3. Dear Researchers, This is my current brick wall. I am sending this to multiple lists as borders changed and families moved around. I have Solomon H. Marsh JR in Westfield, Essex Co., to Jemimah Dolbier. (1) 1 Solomon Marsh Jr. (1810 - aft 1870) & Jemimah Dolbier (Dolbere, Dolbear) (1816 - ) | (2) 1.1 Alonzo Marsh (1834 - ) | (2) 1.2 John M. Marsh (1837 - ) & Nancy W. Johnson (Mar 1840 - 1921) | (2) 1.3 Almira Marsh (1838 - ) | (2) 1.4 Martin (Morton) Marsh (1843 - ) | (2) 1.5 Joseph (N?) Marsh (1843/1846 - ) | (2) 1.6 Solomon O. H. Marsh (Summer 1847 - ) | (2) 1.7 Rolph Marsh (1849 - ) First of all, does anyone have Dolbiers (I think Jemimah was sister of Jesse who married the following year in the same church)? The rest of the discussion slash question is re: Marsh... (Note: birth dates based on censuses, and the family is consistent 1850-60-70). The 1840 census 1840 Federal Census for NJ (Bridgewater, Somerset, New Jersey, Roll: 259, Page: 146). This family matches up with this Soloman Marsh, head of household. M under 5: 1 M 5-10: 1 M 20-30: 1 F under 5: 1 F 20-30: 1 He is listed as JR in the census to distinguish him from Solomon H. Marsh SR (1790-1872) who m. Fanny Brown (1794-1852) in 1812. He was s/o Solomon H. Marsh (another!) and Violetta Morgan (unverified, see way below), and she was d/o Philip Brown and Ann Harned (probably correct, see The Harneds of North America). Their family was: (1) 1 ? Solomon Hunt Marsh Sr. (5 Jan 1790 - 10 Jul 1872) & Fanny Brown (17 Dec 1794 - 14 Aug 1852) | (2) 1.1 Anna Marsh (1828 - ) | (2) 1.2 Mary Marsh (1831 - ) | (2) 1.3 Sarah Ann Marsh (1838 - ) (Note: birth dates are based on censuses, and compared against the above Solomon H. Marsh). In the 1830 Federal Census for NJ (Perth Amboy, Middlesex, New Jersey, Roll: 83, Page: 171) Soloman H. Marsh M under 5: 1 M 5-10: 2 M 10-15: 1 M 40-50: 1 F under 5: 1 F 30-40: 2 I am pretty sure that Solomon H. Marsh JR is NOT the son of Solomon H. Marsh SR unless SR was married quite young and his wife died. That is unlikely because in the 1830 census, on the same page, two lines below Solomon H. Marsh SR is Joseph Marsh, with the following family. Joseph Marsh M 10-15: 2 M 20-29: 2 M 60-69: 1 F 5-9: 1 F 15-19: 2 F 20-29: 1 F 50-59: 1 This would be the more obvious conclusion. My query is obviously, can anyone help? I sort of think the Solomon H. SR and Joseph were brothers (or at least cousins) but cannot go further back. The person between the two Marsh men in 1830 was Cornelius Harned, 1st cousin to Fanny, Solomon SR's wife. Any wild ideas? I just don't think that Solomon SR was the father of Solomon JR because the date of birth for SR is 1790 and for JR 1810, with a marriage of SR in 1812. Michel Metford-Platt PS, from a previous listing on Marsh, in Essex, I have found the following in the Marsh List Archives (have put the names Solomon Marsh and Joseph Marsh in CAPS): (note: if these two Marshes below are the right family, then their father would be Joseph Marsh, and mother Letitia Marsh (which is her maiden name), Joseph being s/o John Marsh and Catherine Hunt) Can anyone clarify the relationship, if any between the Daniel Marsh, d. 1802, Ralph Marsh, d. 1800, and Benjamin A. Brown, all of Middlesex Co., NJ? For details, the following is extracted from "Gateway to the West, Vol. I, Licking Co., Partition Records 1816-1830". Spelling errors have been retained; note the use of "March" and "Marrah" for "Marsh". The extracts appear to describe four different lawsuits relating to land in Licking Co., OH.
