    1. [NJ] Burlington county
    2. The Eighth Edition of the Handy Book for Genealogists gives the information that Burlington county was created in 1694. It was an original county. Hunterdon county was created in 1714 from Burlington county. Maps earlier than 1694 show that Burlington county once included Cape May county and Atlantic county. ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    3. In my source documentation for Hunterdon "Historical Collections of the State of New Jersey.....", Published in 1861, authors: John W. Barber and Henry Howe. As this is just a collection of bits and pieces I don't have the page numbers for the citation and specifically what I have is a description of the ten townships that make/made up Hunterdon County as of 1861. "Hunterdon Co. was set off from Burlington C., in 1713, and named after Gov Robert Hunter. its limits have since been reduced by the formation of Warren, Sussex, Morris and Mercer Cos." So not sure which date would be correct. But for sure prior to 1713/1714 these counties overlapped tremendously and some where not yet even created. I do not too often distinguish between the areas and I normally treat it all as New Jersey when going back that far or further. Sharon
