    1. [NJ] finding photos story
    2. Reading the post about the scrapbook that Ida found reminds me of the time that I was at my local FHC. They were cleaning out their closet and took out a small bag of old photos that someone years ago had brought to the center and then left behind. I asked if I could take them home and try and find the families that they belonged to. They agreed. For a couple of years I tried to find the owners, names of the people in the pictures were clear--each one labeled so carefully. I posted the family names on several sites and finally one day I got a email from an individual looking for the pictures. I agreed to meet her at the center (she happened to live nearby). When she came to the center she showed me all the names that she had been working on in her family tree to prove that she was part of the family listed on the photos. When I handed her the photos it was like I was handing her diamonds or long lost treasures. She was just thrilled. As she and her son began to read all the names she exclaimed "this is my mother's handwriting!" and "I think this is my grandmother's handwriting". She began to tell me about how the old family home many years ago had a fire in it and that after cleaning up the mess the family held a garage sale for the items that they no longer wanted. She could not figure out however, how the photos had gotten to the center nor how they had gotten lost to begin with. We both chalked it up to a genealogy angel. She was just glad to have them now in her possession. joan
