    1. [NJ] CUMBERLAND County History
    2. Howdy folks - should have sent this yesterday, but have been busy. With little to no activity on the previous county history, let's move on to - CUMBERLAND County. I see, online, that this county was formed from Salem county in 1748, with its county seat of Bridgeton. Beyond that I know very little. Could someone out there with much more knowledge of this county tell me a wee bit more about it? Maybe historic places, towns and villages, townships and boroughs; maybe battles fought there or famous inhabitants. How about churches and religions, hospitals, libraries, places to visit if someone wanted to go through it, etc. AND most important, some of your ancestors who left their homes elsewhere, and settled there. On a personal note - I know this line of discussion is going quite slowly, as there seems to be a short burst of interest for a couple of days, and then nothing more. Perhaps it wasn't such a good idea afterall? Am inclined to think it was, for while I have few ancestors who were of various counties in New Jersey, I know so little about the bulk of the state, and I need to learn. I suspect most of you feel the same way too, for as we learn about the state's history and growth, and the names of people who populated it and expanded their families there, we find more connections to families or ancestors we did not know of, and are all the better for it. So, I urge all of you to become interested in this project, and contribute when you can. And if you cannot, then simply learn about New Jersey, and all its wonderful parts. Happy Trails...
