I am working on several families in New York- whose descendants spread to the following NY Counties,Tompkins, Schuyler, Chemung and Steuben. I am currently working on Randal in those counties. I have a Jesse and a John born in the 1775 to the 1880 period who may have been born in New Jersey. It depends on what census you look at. I also find a William born 1795 in New Jersey who is living in Chemung County by 1850. Is anyone working on the Randall/Randle/Randell or other variants out of New Jersey. There was a Hyatt family that moved to the Ovid area just prior to 1800 that is out of New Jersey. We actually have the wife's name but not the father's. Thanks Marilyn
Marilyn - a very brief look at wills of the late 18th and early 19th centuries, for NJ, showed only an Alexander RANDALL of Greenwich Twsp Gloucester co, will dated 11 Nov 1780, in which he names a son Jacob, dau Sarah and her 4 children, son Able, son-in-law John SPARKS, daus Eleanor and Ruth. No mention of anything to do with NY. Also found an entry for a Delia Randle around the 1804 period, but she seems only to be naming nieces and nephews, at best. Don't recall much abt the latter entry. What I've NOT DONE yet is to examine the volumes of wills and inventories, for mentionings of anyone with the surname you are seeking data on, who may appear in 'other' people's wills, not those with the RANDALL, etc., surname; data such as that 'may' indicate other family ties, or associations to events which may be signposts of the migration of anyone or a group. Will let you know IF I am able to contribute.
