Hello, Joseph Wright and his wife Rebecca Bunting were both Quakers from Burlington Co NJ. In the fall of 1809 they arrived in Salem, Columbiana Co Ohio. Salem, OH is famous for having been settled between 1803-1810 by Quaker families arriving from NJ, MD, PA, VA. There is a history book written about Salem, which states that John Spencer of Salem, OH was related by marriage to Joseph Wright of Salem , OH (m. Rebecca Bunting). I have confirmed there is a man living in Salem, OH named John Spencer in the 1809 and onward time period, but no one seems to know where he came from. I think it makes sense to believe he must have also come from Burlington Co NJ as well. Is there anyone looking at a Spencer family, probably Quakers, who had a John Spencer who left about 1809 to Salem, OH.?? Joseph Wright is a direct descendant of Mahlon Wright. Best regards, Lilly Martin
Hello, Here is more information, to make the picture brighter: #1. Mahlon WRIGHT b. 1712 (m. Mary Thorn) #2. John Wright b. 1744 (m. Hannah Barber) #3. Jospeh Wright b. 1777 (m. Rebecca Bunting) I have a list of the children of Joseph Wright. This family moved to Salem, Columbiana Co OHIO in Fall of 1809, leaving Burlington Co NJ. They were QUAKERS. When they arrived in Salem, OH in Fall of 1809, they went to visit John SPENCER in Salem, OH. He was said to be related by marriage to Joseph Wright. John Spencer 'might' be married to a sister of Rebecca Bunting, or perhaps he is married to a sister, or cousin of Joseph Wright? It has come to my attention, that Samuel Wright of New Hanover Twsp, Burlington Co NJ had a daughter named Rachel Wright, who married John Schooley, and they had a daughter named Frances Schooley, who married John Leonard. FRances and John Leonard had a daughter named Rebecca Leonard, and she did marry a man named John Spencer, prior to 1801. Could this be the same John Spencer who moved to Salem, OH?
